Parenting archive

I became a parent in November 2009 and, as the cliché goes, my world turned upside down. PHP posts turned to pregnancy, midnight gaming turned to midnight (and 1am, and 2am, and ...) feeds. Here lies documented tales of poop, boobs, toddler tantrums and the nitty gritty that goes with being Mum.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another…

So with Isabel’s nursing strike we’ve all obviously been on tenterhooks lately. Thankfully this seems to be coming to an end… after having a good rant on t’interwebs during a bad morning on Tuesday I threw her up in the sling and started to dance around singing nursery rhymes to get her to sleep. She… read full entry »

Babywearing and Us

It’s International Babywearing Week and babywearers all over are sharing their stories of slings and carriers. My own babywearing tale starts with a very little Isabel who liked to be held to feed, held to sleep, held awake. I wanted to meet my daughters needs but had a desperately numb bum from spending so much… read full entry »

Nursing Strike, Continued

By popular demand (and by popular, I mean that Stephanie asked) I am giving you an update on the vgvvvv …thanks Isabel… on the scintillating chapter of my life known as Operation Nursing Strike. Long and boring story short, she is still striking. There have been numerous very small improvements, but these are ultimately overshadowed… read full entry »

Nursing Strike

If you follow me on twitter or keep up to date with my tweets via the sidebar you’ll have heard about the current ongoing nursing strike saga. A nursing strike is where a baby goes from several feeds a day to point-blank refusing feeds. This can be for a variety of reasons: teething, oral thrush,… read full entry »

ThinkGeek Advocate Letting Your Baby Cry

ThinkGeek — “stuff for smart masses” — are selling a baby ‘sleep trainer’ in their Newborn/Infant category. The promise is to get your baby “sleeping through the night in two weeks”. Now, personally, when I signed up (metaphorically) to being a parent, I knew I would be parenting at night as well through the day…. read full entry »

My Walking, Talking Little Girl

Well, okay, not quite walking and talking, but it doesn’t feel like we’re far off that some days! I last gave a proper update about Isabel in May as she turned 6 months. She had been sitting up for a while and we’d just started introducing her to solids using the “BLW” method (aka give… read full entry »

Extended Rear-Facing Car Seats and Volvo

Update: Extended rear facing car seats are no longer available at cheaper prices through Volvo Motherhood is full of decisions. How to feed your baby, how to dress your baby (apparently if it wears sleepsuits during the day, you’re a neglectful mother; who knew?), how to wean your baby, how to transport your baby. The… read full entry »

Last Minute Holiday

It was decided at about 9pm last Thursday that a short holiday was in order, last minute booking of a family style resort in Wales ensued. Date to leave? The morning after! Nothing like forward planning… ;) Isabel seemed to enjoy herself, and got to experience lots of firsts. First holiday, first swim, first beach… read full entry »

It’s all too much

Juggling so much at the minute. Constantly teething baby (she’s currently on her 4th tooth) coupled with crawling, dropping feeds and reverse cycling, plus she bit me for the first time last night :( / surprise visit from my Dad / work pressure (do I return or not? I have no choice, I can’t afford… read full entry »

Cloth Nappies: Day Three

The last day of my experiment (yesterday) was a resounding success. Isabel was in cloth (just ordinary terries) all day until bedtime; we went out to the park for a bit, went to the shop and no leakages. I’m really impressed with how well they seem to hold pee actually, because I’ve always considered Izz… read full entry »
