It’s all too much

Juggling so much at the minute. Constantly teething baby (she’s currently on her 4th tooth) coupled with crawling, dropping feeds and reverse cycling, plus she bit me for the first time last night :( / surprise visit from my Dad / work pressure (do I return or not? I have no choice, I can’t afford not to) / websites… the q*bee, tutorialtastic still hasn’t been sorted, new projects for myself and friends / money(!) my maternity pay runs out this month – I’ll be getting £17 and that’s it until I go back to work in November. Desperately trying to sell off old books etc so that I don’t have to dip into my savings to cover the next few months.

So yeah, if I’m not posting a lot on twitter or whatever, it’s ’cause I’m busy trying to extract my head from my arse :D

  1. Oh dear, wouldn’t you consider leaving Tutotialtastic and other personal/friend’s projects for the moment and instead concentrate on doing a bit of freelance programming? My friend’s leaving work in October because he’s pulling in quite a few well paying jobs now. You could start off on very small projects until Izz stops teething and once she’s more settled, you could get a couple more done too? That’s what I’d do!

The stuff for friends is paid work :)

  3. Ah so that’s not too bad, at least that sort of puts aside the money worries issue? If I had your skillz I totally wouldn’t work, but then I guess everyone needs a bit of adult influence once in a while. Being in the house 24/7 with Izz may make you forget how to talk really and you’d only be able to do baby talk. I get the same thing after handing out with Archie (my dog) for a couple of hours. hehee

  4. Hang in there Jem, things will become easier and clearer as time passes. You have us lot here to scream at when things are hard, and you know we will dive in there to help out whenever and wherever we are needed :)

@Carly: re "at least that sort of puts aside the money worries issue" … not really! It’s only a few hours work (but taking time as obvs. juggling baby at the same time).

  6. Well, I’m still here if you need to chat about work stuffs. I tried to have lots of money saved up before I went on maternity leave since several weeks were going to be unpaid plus I’d be receiving hospital bills, but we definitely dipped into our savings to cover it. Lame.

  7. I know the feeling. Money shuffling and figuring out the best solutions for the whole family is enough to make a girl crazy. Good luck and best wishes with sorting it all out.

  8. If there’s anything I can do to help, Jem, shoot me an email!

Sometimes, I feel like a chicken with my head cut off with Elysia, allowing her to lead the way when it comes to her needs sometimes makes me feel like I’m being pulled in a million and one directions.

I might be able to come up with a PHP project to pay you for if you need work. I’ve been thinking about getting back on the web but know I just don’t have the time to do all the coding myself.

  9. I really admire Mums, you have so much to do, to think about and try and organise I honestly don’t know how you do it, I take my Hello Kitty hat off to you. I hope that you can find a way to keep everything above water and not completely exhaust yourself.

Maybe you could list some of your books to sell on here, or other things? Ebay is always a good friend (or similar sites).

If you are looking for some paid work, I have been wanting a script created for a comment rotation website I want. Tess is going to help me with this, but maybe you could help too and I could send some funds your way (and hers). It would depend on if you did have time and how much it would cost. :)

I do hope everything will work out. :’)

  10. Aww sorry Jem, I was just trying to help. I hope it all gets sorted soon :(

    I know :)

  12. So much, so much! I know how you feel :( I’m currently working full time and taking two intensive courses. I just want to go home after work and do nothing, but I have so much shit to do! I also keep volunteering for random web dev projects with my school’s faculty… two full time jobs now :(

    As such, I haven’t blogged in ages… :'(

Did you want any help with tutorialtastic? I would be very interested in developing for it :)

  13. I’ll give you free babysitting when you go back to work if you can be arsed to drive here each day. I’ll even breastfeed her if you want ;)

  14. Popped you an e-mail. Thought I’d also let you know that my workplace would have freelance for you <3>

  15. Aw that’s a lot to handle! I hope things start looking up for you soon ^__^ Things in my life are a bit crazy too and I took a year and a half off my site. I’m now happy to be back online because blogging is one thing I really needed. :)

  16. Crap, that’s not good. I don’t know how else you could earn money on the side other than paid blogging. People are always asking me about that when they’re desperate. XD

Hopefully something nice pops up that’s web-related and you could do something from home! Fingers crossed. :)

  17. Aw, wish you the best of luck, Jem. Life always likes to hand you the crazy stuff all at once, but you can handle it, babe!

  18. You seem more overwhelmed than I could ever imagine myself being.

Maybe you should put advertising on your websites? :P j/k

  19. Well there’s nothing wrong with taking a bit of a break from some of the things that don’t help put bread on the table, but make sure you still squeeze in a little bit of time for you, otherwise I’d imagine you’d go mad with any sort of workload, not to mention a teething baby.

  20. 4th tooth! Congratulations! My mom used to be so happy when I had just a tooth in my mouth and she had taken photographs of me smiling with my only tooth xD

I’d say.. keep the tutorialtastic and other website work aside and get some rest! :) You’re working all the time yeah! Yoga helps :D

LMFAO. Head from arse. Nice concept :P

  21. Just going back on your site hence the comment on an older blog. ;)
My nephew had 4 teeth at 4 months… It was kind of weird because my niece (who’s a year older) started teething around 8 months like your ‘Izz’! I love hearing about her so much because it allows me to reminisce about when my niece hit all of these milestones. And my nephew lives 6 hours away so I don’t get to hear about a lot of his big events.
I’d say I’m borderline obsessed with your blogs about Isabel (please, dear God, let that be the correct spelling!) but I assure you, not in a creepy "CALL THE F-ING COPS NOW" kind of way. Hehe! So, that said: please blog about her every day so I can know exactly what’s going on? LOL just kidding!

  22. And then I realize how heartless I am because I said nothing about you. I think websites could definitely go on the ‘back-burner’ while you figure out what you need to do. Plus, a break never hurt anyone and you def. deserve one.
