If it’s not one thing, it’s another…

So with Isabel’s nursing strike we’ve all obviously been on tenterhooks lately. Thankfully this seems to be coming to an end… after having a good rant on t’interwebs during a bad morning on Tuesday I threw her up in the sling and started to dance around singing nursery rhymes to get her to sleep. She calmed down and rested her head on my chest and it’s normally not long after this that she drops off. However, instead of carrying on, I decided to risk upsetting her all over again (as the morning couldn’t have got much worse) and so I slipped her out of the carrier and into the cradle hold; instead of screaming at me she opened her mouth to latch :D

We’ve had several good feeds since, including one initiated totally by her after my driving lesson yesterday (btw, I totally ROCK at driving). Still have some feeding issues to overcome but that’s a massive improvement.

Anyway, so we’re getting over that, and then yesterday she was showing signs of diarrhoea (red herring perhaps) and today she’s got chicken pox! There’s a good chance that the two things are related, and that the nursing strike was caused by common “prodromal” symptoms, but whhhhy me. (Emo whining, yes.)

  1. At least she will get chicken pox all out of the way before you go back to work, and she goes to day care! :)

  2. Sounds like things have been hard on both you and Isabella. Hope things get better soon. :-)

  3. That is why she didn’t want to nurse, Jem. She has probably had the symptom for the amount of days & they were just not noticeable. I was that way when I got them, but I was able to tell mom that I wasn’t feeling good. Izzy can’t tell you that. I imagine that was what the problem was. I am so sorry for her getting them, but I agree with Aisy, at least she will get them over with.

  4. Poor Isabel, chicken pox are awful, but Aisling is right, at least she’s getting them out of the way now. As far as I know it’s a one time thing? You catch them and then you have the antibodies built up so that you don’t catch them again. Have you had them, so that you or Karl don’t catch them from her?

  5. I’m glad she’s nursing again. The dancing and singing sounds quite entertaining. ^_^

  6. Chuffed that the nursing strike is over more or less Jem, hopefully it was the chicken pox incubating that caused her reluctance and the problems etc.
If she stays like she is, ie: spotty but unconcerned then you are lucky – I’ve seen kids over the years that were really ill with it and literally covered everywhere, in hair, inside mouths etc so hopefully Izz won’t get this bad, especially as she has your immunities + apparent immunity against usual childhood illnesses including the chicken pox however there is always the chance that contact with anyone that has had CP already may infect them with shingles but it is also possible to contract CP more than once. You should be fine, poor Karl and his Mum may end up catching them too so it might be an idea to warn his Mum.
As for your Emo whining…try it with 6 ;) hehehe :P

  7. Yay! Nursing strike ending! You’re a good mommy, caring for you daughter so much methinks.

Chicken pox? Haven’t heard of anyone getting that lately, but since it’s common and virtually everyone lives through it, happy times await!

  8. Aww well at least it’s better to get chicken pox when you’re young. I’m glad that she is doing better with her nursing but I hope she feels better!

  9. Ugh, chicken pox. I remember those. At least the good thing about it is that she’s getting them out of the way, and you won’t have to worry about it again. :)
