Coping Without TV

In the weeks after Isabel’s arrival, Karl and I stopped watching TV. It wasn’t planned; in fact, we were really pleased originally that the cottage had such an awesome aerial compared to the old flat. It just seemed so… low priority. I’d vowed not to let Isabel be babysat by the TV anyway, so I… read full entry »

Me and my Mooncup

Note: this is a girly-TMI entry. Please do not read if you are weak of heart or a squeamish boy type. Thanks. I’d originally heard of the mooncup a few years ago. I liked the sound of not having to pay out regularly for tampons, but given that my periods were rarely around anyway (‘thanks’… read full entry »

Breastfeeding and Booby Traps

I started this draft when my application form came through from the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers to train as a Mother Supporter. You have to include a covering letter talking about your breastfeeding experiences. I started writing, and before I knew where I was I’d covered 1500 words and had no idea where to stop…. read full entry »

Last Minute Packing

Why do I do it every time? I’ve been prepping for this weekend for a few weeks, got lists as long as my arm to say X needs to go here, we’re taking Y with us, etc etc and yet here I am at 8:02 and I’ve still packed basically bugger all. Got posts to… read full entry »

WFLW: Tuna Pasta Salad

A cheap and cheerful classic that’s really quick to make. Today’s leftovers from last night contain pre-cooked cold pasta, tinned tuna, tinned sweetcorn (Green Giant Niblets are awesome straight from the tin), and some chopped steamed asparagus and courgette that needed using up. Eaten with a yoghurt and an apple, I’m satisfying various daily requirements… read full entry »

I Blew It

Aye, there goes my posting-every-day. (Although hopefully I can pick it back up again.) Isabel came down, very suddenly, with some sort of virus yesterday. She spent the majority of the day sleeping on me or nursing. By the time I’d finally got her down for the evening I was knackered and just wanted to… read full entry »

Labial Frenectomy

Have spent all evening trying to do some research into the labial frenectomy procedure, ENT specialists in the local area, etc. Am getting absolutely bloody nowhere, apart from more and more frustrated. To cut a long and boring story (about breastfeeding, mostly) short I am convinced that Isabel has a maxillary lip-tie: i.e. there is… read full entry »

Slight Dilemma

This time next week I’m going to be in Wales; we’re stopping until the Monday. I am “supposed” to be blogging every day. Do I write double posts this week and schedule for the days I’m gone? (And hope WordPress doesn’t let me down again) Or just not post? That seems like the pants option,… read full entry »

Crappy Facebook “Like” Bug

I finally got round to tweaking my sidebar and bringing individual sidebars for posts back (with just related posts for now, but with more post info coming soon). Anyway, I also added a Facebook like button as a temporary thing until I re-code the original share buttons I had, only to find my logs ram-packed… read full entry »

The Self-Settling Myth

There are many contentious issues on parenting websites. Right up there with the grand breastfeeding vs. formula debate is sleep, and more specifically, sleep training. I’ve talked about my problem with certain methods of sleep training before, so I won’t rehash things. In the grand scheme of things I am quite moderately middle, possibly leaning… read full entry »
