The Driving Test

Whilst bathing Isabel last week, Karl and I were playing the “what noise does … make?” game. Lions say rawr, monkeys say “ooh ooh” etc etc.

Karl then asks “what noise does mummy’s driving make?” Isabel replies: nee-naw-nee-naw

Thanks kid.

Anyway, this seemed like an appropriate way to lead into the results of my driving test today.

I failed. Speeding. Was doing roughly 37mph in a 30 zone. Stupid mistake, because I know the road and knew it was a 30. I was confused, I’d been overtaken, split second of doubting myself … that’s all it takes. Bit of an arse, but it’s all good – test rebooked for October.

But hey, at least I didn’t require a nee-naw-nee-naw. :)

  1. Ahhh it sucks doesn’t it? I failed three times and past this year on my fourth attempt. You will get there – they are awful things :( x

  2. I’m sorry Jem, to be honest some examiners are overly picky and a fair few might have let that slip and given you a severe rollocking but still passed you. Heyho, you will know next time to be bang on the limit and not a fraction over. To have taken you through that particular roundabout system was downright mean and in all honesty I think he was a git for doing so. I myself (with 34 odd yrs driving experience) still tremble at the thought of having to go through that and will happily add 5 minutes and a drop or two less petrol just to avoid it. But still… you now know what to expect on the test itself and hopefully will sail through next time around. Chin up, you have nothing to be ashamed of :)

  3. FAAAAAIL!!!! Now that card mum bought will have to wait ;D

  4. I passed my first driving test as well. Two big mistakes within a minute. Oh well, I did pass eventually and now, of course, I’m an excellent driver :P

  5. If it makes you feel better, I passed my driving test LIKE A BOSS with about 98% first time, but can’t parallel park to save my life now. So it is quite possible that you might fail your test now, but will become an awesome driver anyway. Like me, but reversed!

  6. I failed my driver’s test the first time too (this was back when I was 17 and my dad was the *anal* driving teacher), so you’re not alone. :) When that happened, my dad finally enrolled me to a driving school and had a real teacher teach me (he was a lot nicer than my dad was LOL). I passed the test the second time.

Wish you well on your retake. :)

  7. At least you didn’t fail for something technical, like parallel parking (maybe you don’t have to do that in the UK but that’s what got a lot of my friends on their test). :P

I had to do a parallel park, which I bodged slightly, but it was the speeding that got me :'(

  8. Ah don’t feel bad Jem.. I failed my driving test twice before I finally passed! You’ll get it!

  9. Apparently the pass rate is 43%, so most people need to take it at least twice before they pass. I’ve failed 3 and, after refusing to go near the driving seat of a car for over ten years, I’ve got one booked for 3rd November (didn’t like to say so on Twitter (am @em_bean) as the only person who knows I’m having lessons is my husband – thought it might be easier if I didn’t tell people so there would be less pressure).

Good luck for next time, fingers crossed for you!

I never thought about it like that. At my local test centre the pass rate is 47% so that’s still less than half.

Good luck in November! I’ll be thinking of you :)

  10. I almost got into an accident the first time I tried to get my driver’s license. Guess if I passed. Hah. Oh well, you’ll get it next time out. Good luck!

  11. You made me laugh with these lines “nee-naw-nee-naw”. Is this an ambulance or a police chasing you of over speeding? hehe
