The 3 Ws (No, not World Wide Web)

What is WordPress?

WordPress is described as “web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog”, but I don’t think that does this snappy little content management system justice.

WordPress, which started as a simple blogging script, is a full-featured CMS used to create more websites than any other CMS in the world. Its strength comes from the masses of contributors to the WP community, publishing and updating thousands of plugins and themes daily.

Why should I use WordPress?

If the thought of thousands of developers working hard to provide plugins and themes to suit every type of site doesn’t tempt you, maybe the following will:

  • More sites are being converted to WordPress than to any other content management system
  • WordPress is free, and open source, which means you can use it at no cost and change it as much as you want too.
  • WordPress is regularly updated, which means fixes for bugs and new features exactly as they’re needed
  • As it’s search engine friendly out of the box, WordPress can help you save on your SEO budget
  • It has an automatic updater, which takes the hassle out of keeping your site updated and secure

Fact is, there’s a reason why more people are choosing WordPress over every other option… can you afford not to?

Where can I host WordPress?

The great news is that virtually every web host supports WordPress; from cheap bundled packages provided by your ISP to software-specific packages provided by WordPress specialists.

The minimum requirements to run WordPress are:

  • PHP version 5.2.4 or greater
  • MySQL version 5.0 or greater

Your potential host will be able to confirm if they support these. is currently hosted in the UK by Clook Internet Services.
