Do me a Favour?

One of my Snarkers is up for vote in the WPWebHost Best WordPress Design Awards. I don’t normally get involved in these sorts of online voting/award things because it’s just egotistical back-patting (and by that I really mean that I’m not good enough to be entered) but Mimi mentioned that the guy coming in second is bribing his visitors to vote for him:

If you vote for me, leave your name in the comments below. I will do a drawing later (May 1)(May 7, sorry my misunderstanding) and give away some free software from MacHeist 3. I’m adding to the free software list a free copy of Tweetie.

I think that’s verging on cheating, and so I’m happy to back a genuinely talented artist to help her hold on to her number one spot. If you think that the hand-drawn designs of AmourChaleur are as super spiffingly great as I do, you can vote by following these instructions (requires JavaScript):

  • Pop over to the Best WordPress Design Awards post
  • Scroll down until you see the ‘Best Hand-Drawing’ category’
  • Click the option for “Amour Chaleur”
  • Click ‘Vote’

It’s as easy as that. You only have 2 days though, so the quicker the better :)

Update (5th May): Rogie has very kindly updated his post to reflect his decision to remove the software offer, and has offered to give his winnings to the runner up (Dayna) should he win. Very admirable move. :)

    Jem you’re so awesome.

I think there are no rules in this contest so technically speaking, it isn’t wrong but morally speaking, it might be.

Anyway, I agree with Rilla. You’re awesome! :D

I third Rilla! :D I like his skills in designing too, but that post makes me feel a bit annoyed :l

    GO DAYNA!

I hate all hand-drawn designs because it reminds me of what I have not enough talent to do.

All right, all right, I voted for your friend… because she has a goal of what to do with the reward. I can empathize with that.

Adorable and well done layout of his:
    Amour Chaleur (35.0%, 605 Votes)

That wa shim leading as of this post/my vote. Pretty lame what other people will do for recognition.

    Voted :)

Thanks for the great contact forms you’ve written!

Voted! Even if there aren’t any rules forbidding him to bribe his visitors to vote, it’s still not right.

And if that guy won.. what satisfaction would he receive? Not much knowing that most of his votes were probably people wanting something in return. Shame..

I voted for Dayna in the beginning of the contest, I have no doubt she will win!

Voted! I personally thought hers was the best, anyway. It’s sad that he has to bribe people to "like" his work.
    Go Dayna!

Voted! At the beginning, but that guy is horrible.

I voted! I thought her drawings were cute anyway. ^^

    I agree, that is lameness.

    Go Dayna!

Dayna’s site is so cute, she deserves to win. I voted for her ages ago. :)

AMEN JEM!!! I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks so. I truly think Dayna deserves it, if nothing else (which trust me, there is LOTS else she deserves it for) because she doesn’t bribe people to vote for her. Rock on!

I completely agree with you. I also voted for AC. :)

Like Latrina said, where’s the satisfaction in knowing you only won because it bribed people? It’s a shame because that guy is actually talented and has a seriously good chance of winning based on that alone. I voted for Amour Chaleur the other day though :)

Voted for AC a while ago. The design is just so cute. ^_^

Although I freely admit I know nothing of web design or anything else remotely connected I really do think that Amour Chaleur’s drawing is best among those posted simply because I liked it the best. Ergo I gave it my vote :)
    (38.0%, 691 Votes)

    Hope they win.

Looking at all the drawings posted I have to a say that Amour Chaleur’s is the best anyway so I gave it my vote :)

It’s ridiculous to put up a notice like that. People should vote for you designs because they think you deserve it, not because you are giving them free software. >.

I voted for someone else ages ago (cause I was told to. heh.) and I regret it now because Dayna’s is stunning.

Bribing someone to vote for you is just stupid. It’d be funny if he came last :)

Bribing users with software? That’s hardly sporting, is it? *shakes head*

Hey there, this is the offender. Mimi, one of my readers pointed this out my wrong and I’ve decided, albeit a bit late to take down my wrongful actions here: http://www.komodomedia.com/blog/2009/04/vote-for-me-and-ill-be-your-bff/comment-page-2/#comment-247749

I’ve noted on my blog that I am willing (If I win, which most likely I will not) that I will give the winnings to the runner-up.

Please let me know if you feel this sufficient to apologize for my actions. Thanks.
