An Insect, Beginning with C

I decided to have some cauliflower with my salmon for tea — there was a nice big cauli in my veg box this week — only after cutting in to it I discovered a green caterpillar.

I am not normally the sort of person who washes vegetables unless they’re visibly dirty, but I think on this occasion I’d never scrubbed so hard in my life. Even now, the veg is cooking, and I can’t decide if I’ll actually eat it. I can’t get the image of fat green grub out of my head!

Ew ew ew!

Aw Jem, caterpillars are just a natural part of growing things. They are actually good for your vegetables, but also bad cause they will eat them along with other things. If you are growing corn then make sure that you check for worms in the corn when you shuck it, lol. If you are going to grow things, Jem. You are going to have insects.

    Mmmmm protein! :P

I wonder what kinda caterpillar it was. Will it turn into a pretty butterfly?!

I wouldn’t eat that. But the cooking would get rid of the bacterias and germs, so you’re probably safe.

Ehh as long as it’s washed good enough and then cooked, you should be fine but I get what you mean. I might not be able to eat it lol

I wouldn’t eat it, but that’s because I’m a paranoid twat who screams bloody murder at the sight of a baby cockroach.

Aww! It’s just a little caterpillar. Eating the veggie won’t hurt you.

Yikes! Personally, I’d probably throw it out. :( Good luck! Did you wind up eating it anyway? I’m sure it was perfectly safe… he was just snacking on it as well!

At least it was on a cauliflower. Cauliflowers are white.

There’s some kind of green crawling thing that looks like a leaf and likes to hang out on broccoli.

Ack! Why are people so afraid of germs!? Your body has to come in contact with germs every now and then, otherwise your immune system won’t know how to deal with them.

Anyway, the cooking process should have eliminated anything nasty.

I like caterpillars. I think they are cute! I guess I would probably eat almost anything unless a cockroach was on it or something/someone had drooled all over it. Ha ha! I eat food off the floor, no problemo. My stomach is made of iron. O.o

Why does this not disgust me? If it was any other animal, I’d be disgusted.

    Additional nutrients! Mmmmmm. ;)

The heat from cooking kills all the possible germs in food, so not to worry. But psychologically speaking, I wouldn’t be able to get my mind off that green caterpillar either!

All this from the person that mocked me when I found a relative of said green wiggly caterpillar in my home grown Brocolli :o) Take if off and leave it to one side you said…It won’t kill you you said hehe.

It adds protein! Manfriend bought some broccoli round the other day (he has a farm) – that had a caterpillar on it. It was wrong! I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed and only ate it after trying to give it to someone else!

You know, a key component of Australian cuisine is the witchetty grub – similar to the caterpillar. I’m sure you can do it too! ;)

Nice layout. I still can’t work out how to make WordPress themes. It’s way too complicated for my brain.

That is disturbing. :S … And also why you should always wash and check all produce before consuming. :P I’d probably eat it, but only after reminding myself that there were no more caterpillars, haha.

Well, at least now you KNOW that there was a bug in your food, if you were to buy food in a store (and not wash it) there might have been so many bugs on there without your knowledge ;)

Also, if there were any germs or other bugs left on your cauliflower, they will have died during the cooking. So there is nothing to worry about. Besides, bugs are a delicacy in some parts of the world :P

Extra protein. I have a missionary friend in Pau Pau New Guineau and they eat grub worms all the time. Consider them a delicacy.

    Umm, yummy!

Before I cook the veggies (that are prone to worms (caterpillars)) I soak them in salt water.
