Quick News

Some quick news, because I’m too lazy to blog properly:

  • BellaBook passed 1000 downloads — since I started logging them — today. I started logging them at the end of May, that’s only a month and a bit!
  • I decided against releasing the tutorial on modifying BellaBook into a fanlisting script, because it ended up being quite complex. Will release a separate script and try to make a decision and stick to it for once in my life.
  • Pre-ordered Harvest Moon: Magical Melody today. Hopefully the gameplay is better than Harvest Moon: AWL but just as addictive.
  • I have forgotten 90% of the things I’ve said I’d do for people recently. If I ‘owe’ you something and haven’t got back to you yet, get in touch.
  • Shawna has sent me a ‘Site of the Moment’ award! Apparently my site is “actually readable”, heh. I’ll add it to my domain section this week.

Warning

This post is over 6 months old. This means that, despite my best intentions, it may no longer be accurate. Age, motherhood, experience, loss... these things have all changed me from when this blog was started back in the heady (ha) days of my youth.

As much as I would like to go back and edit 10 years of archives to provide an insight into the 'me' of now — to update coding snippets and revise website advice — it would probably take years to do so (by which point I'd have to start again!) This would defeat the point of keeping these archives anyway.

Please take these posts for what they are: a brief look into my past, my history, my journey.

    Nerdy question: how do you log your downloads? I’m always concerned that my download counters are artificially high, from all the search engine spiders. I really only care to count actual people. (And with Yahoo’s spider downloading every page of my site 5 times a day — you would think their search would be better with such a hyperactive spider — I would guess half of my download counts can’t be human.) I recently stopped counting if the user agent contains G*, Y*, or M*, but I’m sure the counter still gets triggered by lots of bots. PS — Edited for the commenting blacklist (I think). Starred letters stand for the three big search engines.

    Yay on BB passing 1000 downloads! Ummm… I don’t know about “owing” anything, but my email was down a few weeks ago right around the time we discussed your Javascript spam solution for Guestblocks, and I never ended up receiving an email from you. I don’t know if one never got sent, or if I just never received it due to the email outage and now look like an ass for not replying. No rush, just thought of it when you mentioned forgetting things. :D

    Psh, PHPAskIt got 1000+ downloads after a month and a half… Oh wait, same as you, heh. CG should really put the download counter back up, I’m nosey and want to see who’s downloaded my script…

    Congrats! The script certainly deserves to be successful. In reply to your comment on my guestbook, the captcha is a dream! It is so fantastic not to be constantly reuploading my entries file to override all the spam I was receiving. :)
