Oh No, Not Linux

Oh no, I’ve only gone and done it… I’ve only gone and installed Ubuntu on my Dell. It’s like… the end of an era! No more Windows XP. That makes us a Linux household now.

Bill Gates will be crying himself to sleep tonight, you watch.

    Oooooh, where can we watch?

I just got a new laptop, but it has Windows Vista, which my dad says is a piece of ****. :C

Awesome! I used to run Linux a couple years ago. I used Fedora Linux and another one briefly whose name eludes me currently. I switched back once I got frustrated with game performance on my PC, but it’s definitely something I would like to try again in the future. Keep us updated! I would be so eager to hear more about it.

My boyfriend keeps preaching about Linux (the whole OSS thing there) but I don’t see the appeal just yet. I’m too much of a sissy to try it.

Now I really want to install Ubuntu, but the rest of my family will kill me. D:

My friend has Ubuntu on her computer. Her brother installed it because their PC is so old that it could no longer handle Windows.

    I don’t like Ubuntu.

    Kubuntu > Ubuntu.

    You know this. *Nod*

I wanted to install Ubuntu on my laptop, but my family is kinda against it. Somehow my dad hates a lot of OS / softwares D:

Congrats! I’m really hoping that once I get a new hard drive I’ll be able to put Linux on my current one and mess around with it until I feel 100% comfortable with it. When I was in Networking last year we had it for about two or three weeks and it was awesome, but a lot of it was confusing.

Ubuntu is a great system; no steep learning curve, not a lot of need to for a lot of self-compiling of drivers, etc. Yet it still allows for a lot of CLI-hackery, which is über cool. So depending on your knowledge, you can customize it as much as you want.

I have no idea what your level of experience with linux is, but you may find BackTrack interesting as well; I find it extremely handy in our line of work (and hobby) ;)

YES! Finally! I’ve always felt a bit confused and alarmed that you, one of the geekiest of my fellow online geeks, did not use Linux or at least OS X as a main operating system. Eeeee! I’m quite tickled you’re kicking the Windows bucket. If you ever want to come to me for Ubuntu/general Linux help or something, don’t hesitate! But really, the awesome thing about Ubuntu is its huge help community online; they could probably answer any question or solve any problem you may have.

I installed Ubuntu o my Acer 2 or 3 days ago. So far, no regrets!

I also installed it over Vista, not XP, so most people are baffled by how long it took me to decide to do this.

My geek cred totally went up when I switched to Linux a year and a half ago from Windows XP. I feel geekier still as I respond to a post about something geeky. :P

Ubuntu is a great Linux OS. And it was the Linux distribution that made me stick to Linux and far, far away from Windows Vista (which I had been planning to install).

I find that one of people’s main complaints about Ubuntu is that it doesn’t have out of the box propriety media capabilities. For people interested in something that’s similar to Ubuntu but feels a bit more polished in terms of media stuff (and aesthetics…and other things, imo), I recommend Linux Mint (which is a distribution based on Ubuntu).

I am also using Ubuntu, I got rid of Windows last night. What spurred me on was wanting to get rid of all the crap on my hard drive, so I formatted the lot and installed Linux instead of XP. :)

You have brought shame upon your family. Next you’ll be installing OS X, ferchrissakes. Don’t do it! Think about how much fun it is to right click.
