Help! Looking For a Book
When I was in school, approx. aged 14, I read a book.
No, you sarcastic buggers, that wasn’t the last time I read a book, before you suggest it. :P
It was a book about these people who’d developed a way of going back in time; some sort of giant tunnel that they could drive through if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, apart from that, all I remember is that the people from back in time (possibly medieval ages, something like that) were quite hooked on paracetamol from the future.
I would love to find and read this book again, but as you can see… I don’t have much to go on. The book was quite thick, and at the time was fairly recent, so we’re looking for a published date of approximately 2000.
Any suggestions of either how I can find this book or even the title and author/ISBN (who am I kidding?) would be fantastic. :)
Update: I am 99.9% sure that Shari has it spot on, so I’ve ordered a second hand copy of The Sterkarm Handshake :)

Maybe, and emphasis on the maybe, you could find it here: http://tinyurl.com/6p4ky6 (I’ve linked the “time travel” tag on Listal).

Reminds me a bit of the TV series “Sliders”, but I’m not sure how helpful that is. :P

I was thinking it was The Time Traveler which I saw a TV kids version a long time ago, but the I read the wiki synopsis and realized it’s nothing like what you described. It’s still a great sci-fi story though, you should check it out anyway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Time_Machine

I think it may be ‘Timescape’ I had a look through amazon and this matches the following criteria:
1. 416 Pages – So quiet thick
2. Published 9th March 2000
3. It’s to do with time travel
Heres the synopsis:
1962: A young Californian scientist finds his experiments spoiled by mysterious interference. Gradually his suspicions lead him to a shattering truth: scientists from the end of the century are using subatomic particles to send a message into the past, in the hope that history can be changed and a world-threatening catastrophe averted.

Hope I helped :)

I’ve read a book that matches some of your criteria. I liked it, actually. “The Sterkarm Handshake” by Susan Price (Amazon: http://is.gd/26Gq ). It was released on 1998, but HarperCollins published it on 2000. There was a giant time travel tunnel in the novel, and the people from the 16th century were intrigued by the medicines from the 21st century.
I’ll try to remember something similar, but your description immediately brought this particular novel in mind, so…. Anyway, good luck. :)

I’ve read a lot of books but this isn’t one I read, or at least I don’t recall it. It doesn’t ring a bell at all.
But looking up some things about the book above it might actually be the book you’re looking for (The Sterkarm Handshake)

That sounds like an interesting book, first thing that came to my mind was that old 60’s show the Time Tunnel.

Interesting.
Another book like that would be the “Transall Saga” by Gary Paulsen.
It’s pretty interesting, actually.
