Grass is Always Greener
I’ve just seen Melissa’s hot new layout, which utilises so many of my favourite web design ‘touches’, it makes me pine for a grey on white text design. Of course, if I were to do that, I’d be missing my white on grey design before the month is out. :(
Is there such a thing as “Grass is Always Greener Syndrome”? I think if there is, I suffer from it.

^ So do I.

Ohh that really IS a hot layout. And yeah — if that syndrome DOESN’T exist, you need to… invent it. Because I’m pretty sure I’m afflicted too =)

I don’t necessarily think the grass is always greener. I find that seeing other people do something ‘fresh’ with their design challenges me to do something ‘fresh’ as well. Be daring. ;)

I love that; I love Tracy’s new layout too. So many lovely new layouts floating around at the moment. :P

I’ve been making new layouts all week (too much free time) without coming up with anything decent, and now I see this and I want to rip my site apart and let it go… Yes, the grass is almost always greener …

@Amber: Likewise! The gorgeous colours, the detail, the chunky “cuteness” of it, whilst being professional at the same time… I just can’t seem to pull that off and it makes me uber jealous :(

Maybe I’m stupid, but I don’t see the new layout. I still see the launch progress thing.

@Whitney: Not stupid, just DNS caching. :) You’ll have to try again later.. or if you’re using Windows try flushing the DNS cache: http://www.tech-faq.com/flush-dns.shtml

Omg! :D I’m so pleased you like my design, Jem! And yes…the grass is always greener. But if it weren’t, then we’d be stuck being satisfied with the dull stuff. Ew. But my inspiration always comes from first envying the other side of the fence. I will honestly tell you that I referenced your site quite a bit when I was deciding how to organize my content, because I definitely admire the way you have yours. :D You just didn’t see my millions of visits on your Mint because I downloaded that NoScript plugin…*cackles*

Oh poo, it’s still not working for me. I cleaned out my browser cache as well… hmmm. It’s a mystery.

ooh, that is rather nice but wouldn’t really suit you, I don’t think. bit shiny. (and I don’t mean that in a bad way – you have your own style, as do we all!)

“Is there such a thing as “Grass is Always Greener Syndrome”? I think if there is, I suffer from it.” Ja, there is. Not only in the webdesign-world, I’d say. Be happy with your current layout and stop whining around here :P

Melissa’s layout is just so amazing and shiny… I want it. And most of us probably suffer from the same syndrome, but you shouldn’t worry because I’m sure there are people out there who drool over your layout!

Melissa and Tracy’s designs are both awesome! I’m working on my own new theme (the best I think I have ever come up with), and it’s so great to see so many awesome designs to motivate me to work more on my site! :)

Um… well I always like my layouts for about 5 minutes after finishing it. After that almost everyone else’s is nicer than mine :P

You told it exactly like it is. I tend to like other people’s layouts better than my work and I generally begin to feel discontent about a layout one day after uploading it…

Okay, I’ll fix that when I can. And okay, I had to put something xD Where can I get a site url valid regex? I googled it and got that one.

I love that layout. It looks organized and professional, it really looks like it’s been created by someone who knows what they’re doing.

@Vasili: Please don’t leave unrelated comments on entries, it makes the inner perfectionist in me flinch. I’ll respond to your regex question by email :p

mmm, in the world of web design? yah, i’d say the grass is always greener on one side.. but on the other one it’s dirt brown, sprouting weeds and covered in bugs. so don’t worry too much. use it for inspiration. or to bring out the competitive nature with in. that’s what i tell meself anyways ~_~

That is one hot layout… I cannot wait to redesign my own. I really hate it now, especially since seeing it on the work computer! It looks bad! I’m going for dark gray and white, with either a touch of sky blue, or orange-y red. Perhaps pink. I’ve designed it all in my head (and sketch book) but not decided on a colour to put with my sexy gray/white ensamble! *ponders…*
