Yes, Another Layout. Sorry.
So, hands up if you can figure out what I’ve been doing today? I’ll give you a clue: it wasn’t what I should have been doing.
I have a feeling that some of you will be disappointed with the layout. If you spotted the title in your feedreader and came over here all excited, you’ll notice that in actual fact there’s not a lot to get excited about. It’s a standard structure, standard layout, standard CSS. Nothing new and no web 2.0 (unless you count the corner of the sidebar.)
I created the layout based on a colour palette. This colour palette. I saw it, I liked it and so I used it. It’s actually quite an odd combination, and I have a feeling some of you are going to be all “eww”.. it’s definitely a love it or hate it colour scheme. Nonetheless, it’s more exciting than red ‘n grey so I’ll probably keep it around for a while.
That’s all there is to say about it, I think.

Well, I like how it is new! Ha ha. I rather enjoy the orange, but I’m not too big on the sidebar colour.

Your comments still have the same problem I told you about in IE. (I cannot take using this browser much longer…) Other than that, I really like this. It’s much easier on the eyes too. I’m not too keen on the green in the sidebar either but as I don’t have a suggestion I’ll just stop being nitpicky and enjoy the header. :P

@Amber: I think you need to hit refresh a couple of times. I fixed the issue, certainly in IE6..?

I must say, the orange certainly surprised me (in a good way) because I’m used to either dark or pastel color schemes from you. I like it though, blue/gray and orange have been my favorite colors. What’s weird to me is that I’ve seen this palette before and I can’t say I liked it, but the way you arranged the colors made it work. Keep it up!

I like it a lot :D Even though it’s standard 2.0 etc. It looks really nice, and even the orange looks good :)

Interesting color scheme. Not that I hate it, because I’m using oranges and greens too. And the comment thing is messed up in IE7, if my IE tab isn’t lying to me…
Jem said:

Vasili: can you refresh a few times to make sure it’s not cached, then take a screenshot of what you see in IE7? I don’t have it to check :(

I like the orange and I love the green, but I don’t like the two combined. I’ll even tell you a secret: I refreshed the page to make sure it had changed completely and not taken something from a previous attempt or whatever.

Hm. I like the orange in the sidebar, but I find I’m really overpowered by the giant orange at the top. Although now that I am writing this comment, it’s the yellow that is distracting. I love the greens though. The background is very very nice indeed.

I refreshed the page 5 times, with IE7 and it still was being weird, here’s the screen shot: ( tinyurl.com/26ubjy ) Oh, and you can get an add on for FF that lets you see pages in IE without having IE, the add on is… ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 ) And I agree, the yellow on the bottom is kinda distracting. And I was wondering if you could help me set up my email account with outlook, if you know how to ;]

The bright yellow footer has to go! Now! It’s blinding me. I’m not particularly fond of the color choice, I prefer a different tonality, but it definitely gives me a vibe of warmth… which , would definitely make me stay (even if you weren’t already among my top fav site owners). Aside this, I like the sidebar… though, I prefer it to be like on tutorialtastic – occupying the whole height. This blank space on the left looks odd when I scroll more. It is better than your previous layout though, it was getting rather dull, what with the white and the gray being very similar. So yeah: I can live with it :P
Mat said:

Hmm, i like the far background image…oh and finally the sidebar is back on the left. Hooray for readability. Apart from that im not keen on the header and the rest is rather un-eventful. I’m glad you enjoyed your day off :)

Although I’m not too fond of the yellow of the footer and hover color of the links, I must say I do like it. It’s pretty different from what you usually do–you normally use more subtle colors.

To be honest, I liked the previous layout better. I feel that the “Jemjabella” header graphic would go better without the red background… maybe invert the colors, consider red text?
Matt said:

PLEASE make it less wide. It looks disgusting on my widescreen resolution (and I’m sure you’ll know that’s not an insult! The colors and everything else are fine, it’s just so wide it hurts – especially with this smaller font :3)
Carly said:

Jem said:

Matt said:

@Carly: Yeah I did that first before complaining :P @Jem: I thought it was probably like it by accident or something as it looked far too wide for any “normal” website! Thank you for fixing it, it looks much better now! :3 I can read without getting lost aha.

All I have to say is… I’m glad Flock can make text bigger. Sorry I don’t have anything nice or constructive to say, although I will test it for you tomorrow in IE6, and hope that you’re using relative font sizes.

I’m not too big on the colours this round, but it’s still better than bright red. But hey, variety is the spice of life! It’s awesome that you’re willing to experiment as much as you do!

Sarah said:

Oh man, I much prefer this to that red and gray layout, which I thought was very boring. I like the little patterned background and the contrast of deep teal with bright yellow and orange. I think the header is too plain, what with just the orange and the gradient, but the colors are nice. The footer is a bit blinding.

I like this one more than the previous layout. The colours are an odd combination but I like it. It’s striking and stands out nicely. The only thing that I don’t like very much is the size of the text that displays the name/date/time of comments. It’s too small. I can always resize, of course, but it’s hard for me to read. Still, good job. By the way, you could always count the slight gradient in the header as Web 2.0 if you wanted to.

Well. I like it a lot, except for the font. I find it a bit too small. Also, I’d have made the footer orange too, but that’s just a thought. It’s like Vera said, very warm and welcoming. At least, to me :)

I actually love the way the text is presented, and the structure. I hate the color scheme and had a strong urge to copy your website and make my own and send it in, but then I realized the color scheme in use on my website looks like I wiped my ass with leaves. Leaves of the autumn variety. Sexy.

Cheers for the feedback everyone :) I’ll make any fixes where necessary (I’m looking at IE here) and probably reverse the colours in the footer – wow that’s bright on other screens! I won’t be altering text sizes because that would defeat the point of me making them percentage based for user control in the first place :p

I’ll be flat-out honest in saying that I hate the colour scheme, but me likes Verdana and the sidebar is pretty. Not a fan of the header text or link colour, but considering I’m on my way to blindness, it’s probably just me. Nice job, though. :)

I love the new layout/color scheme. Its strange, at first I wasn’t fond of it, but it’s grown on me. It’s easy to read and the colors don’t blind me (well the header sorta does, but its easy to get used to. :)

I like the colour palette, I am…undecided about the use of them. The blog title on the left doesn’t work for me and I’d like to see more use of the sexy green/blue called fins because that’s a gorgeous colour. Overall, it’s alright. I wouldn’t say it’s like Marmite, I feel rather Swiss about the whole thing actually. ;-)
Hayley said:

I really should reread before I hit submit. By ‘doesn’t work for me’, I mean that it’s too far left. It sort of draws my eyes away from the content and then annoys me because there’s nothing up there I need to be reading. Also, about the text sizing…I can’t figure out if Opera will let me resize text – it has the zoom function but I don’t want to zoom the whole thing….help files here I come.
