Sitescore
Sitescore came back up recently (after what seemed an age) and since then I’ve been getting slightly obsessed with it. In fact, if the people at Sitescore send me a bill for the bandwidth I’ve used up — editing and retesting my site — I wouldn’t be surprised.
My key aim at the moment is to get listed in the top 10 (just for the sake of it). I did manage it briefly last night, but dropped again shortly afterwards. The only thing that seems to be holding me back is they keyword placement test — although I talk about my scripts, articles, even mention my name, PHP etc repeatedly, it doesn’t think it’s enough. If I wasn’t as morally sound as I am (haha) I’d bung in the ‘right’ words here and there for the sake of it, but that’s no better than advertising. (Self-blogstitution on my own site?)
Anyway, I just thought I’d share the link because less people know about the site than I’d assumed, and it’s fun to see what everyone’s scores are. Do comment with yours :)

W00t first comment. Go me. I average 6.4. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I’m not sure it’s good, but then, it’s better than 5, so equally, it’s not cr*p… Interesting…

I did the same thing! I was like: “MUST…HAVE…HIGHER…SCORE!” Once I got up to an 8.6 it got boring. Great, now I’m going to go see what my score is now! (Probably a 7 or something…I don’t use many images in my site, and Google Analytics was slowing my site down).

My overall Sitescore is 7.9 [accessibility score: 9.1, quality score: 8.8, search score: 7.1] Interesting… I think I’m going to go play with it some more :)

I don’t like sitescore personally. There isn’t a specific reason for my opinion, but I really don’t find it useful. I was totally obsessed with it for a month or two, but I only check my score once every month or so now.

Accessibility: 6.3 Quality: 7.2 Search: 4.9 Overall: 5.7 Apparently, my score was low because I didn’t bother getting it listed in search engines and using meta tags. I think that I’ll change that now. Hmm… By the way, all you have to do to get more hits is to blog about something rather risque from time to time.

Looking at my results again, it seems that they don’t like the fact that my layout is imageless. There is such thing has an imageless layout that is visually appealing! The fact that it’s judging is partly done with keywords and SEO stuff means that it’s not a true judge of pure quality.

I’ve messed around with my site a bit and have managed to garner the following scores: Accessibility: 9.8 Quality: 9.8 Search: 5.8 —————— Total: 7.1 I can’t manage to get that search score up. I don’t mention things enough, I guess. I added the keywords they recommended, but really those aren’t very good either. I did have a 6.6, I think.

6.6 Accessibility 7.0 Quality 4.5 Search 5.0 Sitescore Hmm…well, I don’t really care if search engines find me, I am a private web designer. Would like my accessibility to up a little, so I will work on that, my quality is not acceptable, that should be a 10 (did I mention I am a perfectionist on quality?). But here is mine.

Accessibility: 6.7 Quality: 6.5 Search: 4.5 Overall: 5.2 The bad: Some images need alt text, poor search engine placement, “less than ideal” URLs, and Statcounter code makes site invalid. The good: Using Statcounter, flexible fonts, valid CSS, and readability.

I don’t like how they use Alexa.com ratings in their rubric. I have a subdomain, so it only clocks in my host’s rating, and even then I don’t see how it matters in terms of accessibility. I have a small personal website – of course it’s not going to be crazy-popular! And with incoming links, I don’t want a lot of people linking to my site who don’t even visit it – i.e. link exchanges, button rotations, whatever. I’d rather have four sites linking to me than 100 sites linking to me that don’t even visit my site. Still, I’m at 7.3 – which is good enough for me right now.

There’s a difference between testing your site with www and without, right? When I tested my site with the www, it said I have no incoming links… which I know isn’t true. But, it won’t let me test it without www. For http://www.ink-spot.nu, I got a 3.2 average score.

You got quite the, erm, rivals for being on the top 10. You know, a bunch of sites nobody knows about like mozilla.org or wordpress.com I tried my website for the hell of it, knowing well that it would score very low because it’s on hiatus, and I got 1.0 for overall score.

According to sitescore, one would need approx. 18 yrs of formal education to read my site content. I’m not sure what they based this on (are they insulting my writing skills or complimenting me on being able to write content above my level of formal education?) but that amused me and I just had to share. :P
