Like the red, not keen on the blue links (dunno if that counts as the playing with comments comment). Why is red immature? I don’t usually get personal but coming from a bloke using pink, green and some weird shade of yellow, that amuses the hell out of me. I actually laughed out loud. Not sure what I think of the black rollover on the navigation, it feels a little too plain. I like simple but since the whole layout is pretty simple, it could maybe do with a bit more…oomph. Looking forward to seeing where this layout ends up!
@Haley thats ma femininity coming out ;) Good to see you looked at my site. I don’t think its immature but more below the usual standard of Jems designs
Personally, I love it! Looks very nice and cleeeaan. Not a fan of the black roll overs though, maybe they would better in a dark grey instead? Other than that, really nice. :)
umm grant just so you know, your sidebar is overlapped by your content in I.E and the text font looks like it has no style assigned to it. Also… your site reminds me very much of web designer wall…..except, well… not.
@carley If you look that site background as inspired by WDW i have gave credit where credit was due, its in the side notes which are inspired from jemjabella !
Whoa… I honestly like the content area, it’s very clean and I love the blue/red links. I don’t know what it is about the red in the header, but it’s bugging me. I think it’s because those three shades of red are defaults in MS Paint. I dunno, but I think that the header just really doesn’t go with the rest of the site.
those three shades of red are defaults in MS Paint Really? I’ll be quite impressed if I managed to randomly pick 3 shades of red that all happen to be program defaults..
I’ll be quite impressed if I managed to randomly pick 3 shades of red that all happen to be program defaults.. Okay, not exactly :P but you get my point.
Did the blue links get darker or am I imagining it? Actually, the navigation bar red looks darker too so maybe I’ve changed a brightness setting in the last hour. I’d like to see the red picked up more through the layout, perhaps with the bullets? Although that might be overkill, red’s such a difficult colour from that perspective. Personally I always want to add green but I’m scared of it looking like santa threw up on it.
It looks very good in IE (using FF’s IE tab), just that the title is terribly pixellated. I like the header, but would go for a darker shade of gray for the main page’s background. Good job! *high-fives*
I don’t care for red either, but I like the blue links and green arrows. Not too keen on the light gray for the comment text. A little darker perhaps? Like slightly?
I love the red. It’s a nice change as many designers tend to shy away from it since it’s so bright. However, I’m not too fond of the black rollover in the header I’m afraid. Also, I think you should take the red stroke off of the “Ultimately better than you” text. The text is small and the red stroke makes it harder to read. The link for “Hobbies” is just below the rest of the links in Internet Explorer by the way.
My first reaction upon seeing the new layout was to say, “Geah!” It’s startlingly bright, and then there’s nothing else. It goes from punch-in-the-face red to whites and grays, so it gets boring after that initial shock. I don’t really like it.
The top looks good, very neat, but I find that when you scroll down it gets too bland. Perhaps adding a bit of red in *something* would fix the problem, since the red you used is quite pronounced.
Hey Jem, I really hate this shade of red. I don’t know but there’s just something about it that reminds me of apples. And I really hate apples. /end sarcasm.
I really like the red. I think it’s distinctive and pretty under-used, and a great statement if you can get it right (which I think you have). I do agree with the blue links, though – there’s little cohesion with the red. Over all though, I like it enough. :) And that’s quite something from me – I don’t like anything. V xx
i like the comments they look good, that a thing i have a problem designing I feel a slight change to the header maybe some nice lines and shades in the BG would make a hell of a difference ;)
Jem, I have some very interesting screencaps to send you tomorrow when I’m back at work… Your site’s behaviour in IE is so much fun! It’s like…. whoosh! dropping navigation. Whoosh! dropping sidebar. Whoosh! Both dropping… All this within resizing the browser

Oh wow. I love it, I think that it really moves the emphasis from a geeky blog, to a serious coding site. If ya get me. P.s. keep the blue links!
