Books, They Still Exist
I’ve been feeling a little bit rough this week, if not from the icy cold weather we seem to having all of a sudden then plain old tiredness. A combination of later nights, Hex waking me up at the crack of dawn and the everlasting darkness at the time of year all contributing to my weary head.
It was because of this that I decided to spend my day relaxing. Although I only work a 4 day week (unless there’s a lot on at work) I often spend my Friday with my niece and nephew or bumming around up town looking for crap to spend my money on. Today, I decided to simply get my head into a good book.. and that I did; The Talisman by Stephen King/Peter Straub, one of my childhood favourites that I’ve not read since I was about 7 or 8.
The sad thing is, although I did indeed enjoy the time away from the Internet and other distractions, it made me realise that this is only 1 of a handful I’ve read this year and as it’s mid-November, that’s a shameful amount. Don’t get me wrong, I read a lot on the Internet (techy/geeky stuff) and am constantly dipping into my PHP books and the like, but it’s just not the same.
So now I’m rambling this out to you guys in the hope that it’ll inspire at least one of you to go and pick up a book. Me? I’m off to make some food, empty the trash and continue from where I left off on page 341…

I bought a book the other day! Well, two books actually. I bought “Bulletproof Web Design” and another one about the underground rock scene in Belgrade which looks promising.

Books? Anyone got a wikipedia link. HAHA I dont really read allot of hardback books, i do read allot on the web, ebooks, magazines (.net – my monthly mag that rapes me of £6 :@). i don have the money to spend on books, the ones i would read are like £30 and about techy stuff. i also don’t have the time (and wont make time) to read them!

The one thing I dislike about the internet is that it killed my passion for reading 10 books a week :( I barely read anywhere as much as I used to, and I actually end up not finishing some books before they’re due back at the library.

Well, I too feel that I’ve been neglecting reading but my English class has basically cured this. We have to read a book every month for our book talks, so it gets me reading. Also, I’ve joined the school book club. I want to read a lot more than I have been lately, so I figured these obligations will be the push I need to get it done.

I regularly read a book a week. At the moment I’m reading Spin State (bit too neuromancer-ish for me) and The Tightrope Men, a 1960s spy novel. Revish provides a very nice way to track books as well, http://www.revish.com/people/Dachande663/

I’ve read The Talisman, it was great. I love Stephen King books. In fact, right now, I’m reading Hearts in Atlantis (again).

I try and read on the bus 3 days a week. It fills an hour or two a day that would otherwise be spent doing nothing. Can’t do it everyday because of the business of the bus at the time I’m normally on. (although, sometimes I will hold on with one hand, and a book in the other, and everyone else.. bah, who cares if I fall into them. :P)

I’m a total book lover. I’ve found myself in your place a couple of times, so busy reading other things that I forget the joy of actual books with actual stories. I’ve read two this week, actually, so I’m not in that spot right now. The Talisman sounds scary, is it? :) I read all of the time.I don’t read as much as I did as a kid, and I haven’t read many “works of substance” for fun this year, but I’ve read a lot of YA-ish novels. With the internet, and all of the reading that it requires – it kind of takes the joy out of reading for pleasure. Regardless, I’m doing the 12 books in a year challenge – I started in Sept. and I’ll probably do more than half of them in December … :D Nothing like a challenge to get me pumped, I guess.

*sigh* Books? I haven’t read one for leisure in eons, and by the looks of my laziness, I probably won’t do so for another significant period, but here’s to hoping … In the meanwhile, I highly recommend Carrie by Stephen King. Or … anything by Stephen King, really. I might toddle down to the bookstore some time in the next few weeks and drag home a pile of books I’ve had my eye on for about 6565656 years. Fun! PS: Rubbish, girl. Rubbish. Trash = big no-no. :P

I’m such a bibliophile! Books are probably my favorite things in the entire world (hence, I’m going to school to become a librarian). Even when I was little I’d read up a storm, and if I’d get in trouble my parents would actually take my books away from me. Whoever heard of telling a little kid that they weren’t allowed to read? Right now I’m re-reading David Copperfield. It’s one of my favorites.

It’s funny because I read a ton for school (literature classes) but almost never for leisure. I just finished Clarissa by Samuel Richardson, one of the longest novels ever written in English o___O … I know I’m bragging but I have to get something out of it! lol

Of course they do! It’s just time that seems to evade me. I have about 5 e-books (cheapskate me!) plus two regular books waiting for me to open them, and read them. It’s that edra– *cough* forum discussions tend to entangle me in their snare. I wish I could go back to not having a life… those were the times: 2 chicklits a day (I stopped reading “serious” books after high school – had enough of those). Then again, no life meant no money to buy said chicklits…

I do read quite a fair deal, although I haven’t been able to in the recent 10 weeks due to project overload. (Miss those nights where I can just curl up in bed with a good book!) Now, I’m mugging my head off until 3am in the morning. :(

I used to be a voracious reader during my childhood. Then, somewhere, I got busy with my adulthood and the accompanying chores and stopped reading completely. I enrolled myself in a library a year ago to pick up books for my ten year old son. We are allowed to pick up 4 books at a time and keep them for a fortnight. I picked up 3 books for my son and one for myself (even though I wondered how I will ever find the time to read 400 pages in a fortnight). But I got back home and read about 10 pages before I went to bed. I then decided to carry the book with me everywhere. All my waiting time (at the doctor’s, waiting to pick up my son from his classes etc) was spent reading a few pages atleast. I caught on this habit and must have read atleast 18 books during the past one year.
