Jem Wants a Job

 |  Parenting, Personal, Work

It’s been a while since I updated you all on what’s going on in my life therefore I figured I might as well post…

I quit my voluntary job on Friday — the one I’ve been doing since they stopped paying me in September. What with job searching and ‘stuff’ I’ve not had the time to go in. Oh, that and the fact that money doesn’t grow on trees and I have to feed my junk food habit somehow. They had offered me an evening job (paid) but I turned it down because I don’t want to sacrifice the time I have with Karl.

Talking of which: it’s half term over here for anyone going to/working in a school which means Karl & I have the next week together.. whooo! After this week is up I’ve got to get a job. The fact that I’ve been saying this since September is irrelevant. Shush.

I did apply for three last week — two developing jobs and one position as a Trainee Web Designer. It may seem a bit odd that I’m applying for a job as a trainee when I’ve been doing this stuff for about 6 years now, but I’m the kind of person that likes to start at the bottom and work up: I like to know I’ve achieved something myself. Of course, being able to do that means I’ve got to get the job in the first place — calling the guy dealing with the applicants the wrong name is not a good start. (Don’t ask.)

When I’ve not been applying for jobs I’ve been working on the new tutorialtastic CMS — it’s coming along nicely. Most of the old tutorials have been converted, and some new ones are being added. Now’s the time to get any requests in; here’s what I have so far:

Shortening CSS Codes
HTML Quick List

rest old tutorials
PHP: skinning — use file_exists method
PHP: Setting up own FAQ system
CSS: Difference between Classes and IDs
WP: Creating new themees
WP: Editing existing themes
Coppermine & Mambo??
free web templates??

Anyway, that’s “me” at the moment. Nothing exciting going on, as you can see :)

Job hunting is horrible. I’m just starting the process of looking for a summer job, and the whole thing just makes me want to run away and hide.

Goodluck with job hunting. My dad’s currently in the making of a golf website and I’ve got the template done for him but he’s obsessed with the whole “automated” things so I think I might put him your way, if you’re into that stuff. (not exactly a job job but eh?)

well first of all super duper good luck. I hope to get a summer job in webdesign (don’t have time otherwise)… so you’re much better off. The tutorials look very well. Hm.. shortening CSS codes? I’m quite intrigued now. I’m SOOOOOO glad you’re making an own php FAQ tutorial. Hmm.. well what else? Er…dunno. Good luck and get those tuts up faaaaaaast :P

Even though you’ve been saying it since september, it seems like you have been constantly busy & applying for jobs. (for some reason I nearly wrote ‘bed’ – I think I am tired….)
