Changes at Tutorialtastic

I don’t know how many of you noticed that tutorialtastic recently gained authors — I gave three trusted friends access so they can publish their own tutorials should they want to. They’re lazy gits though so it might never happen. :p

Anyway, it’s part of new things I want to do with tutorialtastic… I want to increase the functionality of it so it’s not just tutorials (while sticking to the ‘learning things’ concept). I added a snippets category so I can post little snippets of code as well as the current ‘fully fledged’ tutorials. I will be updating more tutorials (some need fixing, some need rewriting) and there’s WordPress tutorials I need to finish and add.

Of course, nobody knows more about what to add to a website than the people who use it (that’d be you guys, hopefully). So, I need to know what you’d like to see happen with tutorialtastic — how can I make it better for you? (And don’t just say ‘add more tutorials’!)

Maybe you can go on a route that isn’t necessarily just about the coding and stuff. Things like color and design, etc. Kind of like ALA and how they show interesting CSS concepts (like rounded corners) or talk about writing content. That way you cover all aspects of maintaining a website. In all actuality, I guess I’m suggesting a smaller-scale ALA for personal sites.

I’m no good at writing tutorials… I wrote one for tt already (the bb e-mail mangling one) and it had loads of typos and mistakes in it. :(

@Amelie: so do all of mine :P

    What fix your typos? :P

Oh, I thought you meant “do all of mine” as in, “you should do all of mine” rather than what it actually means. Duh…

That’s it Amelie, you keep spamming..

I was thinking of posting my readability one, but I want to prettyify it first. Plus, it’s more of an article than a tutorial…

*spams because Jem spammed my inbox* ;)

I agree with some articles on good-looking CSS design for webpages. All of you guys seem to be quite good at that. :P Er..some tutorials on writing good content would be good. I’m crap at it.

Add more tutorials. Just pulling your leg. :P Erm, I think I’d actually like to see a lot of the articles/tutorials that Rose has on Sillyish converted into longer tutorials for tt. Whenever I’m writing reviews, I tend to direct reviewees to either tt or Rose, so it would be so helpful to have them all in the one place…

I agree with Stephanie’s ideas. Iwas going to suggest those than I saw her post up above :o Maybe also some tutorials on making your own CSS-based layouts? I’ve been trying to learn them but all the tutorials I have found are for like 40 yr old guys who actually have memorized the dictionary aka I really don’t know half the words they are saying ( on the written part, not the coding part).

I’m going to “spam” just this once… I just feel like correcting my wrong use of “than”, I meant to put “then” but brain farted ;)

…How come, in the FAQ page, page four only has three entries and page five is empty…? Why does my above sentence seem so awkward? Should I have used ‘why…?’ Errgh. Spam :X.

By FAQ page, I mean in tutorialtastic.

I know you don’t let users submit their tutorials, but you could have some sort of contest, and the users will have to write some kind of tutorial or article. Maybe more interaction?

I think it would be helpful to have some tutorials on spam protection in blogs. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve been receiving a lot of spam comments in my blog lately, and I hate having to moderate comments.

I like what you’ve done with the site. My first instinct is “add more tutorials”. What I do have a lot of trouble finding on the net are lists of attributes, tags, etc. for X/HTML and CSS.

Jem, could you write some tutorial about flexible layouts? Something which will not only concern width of divs but also font? I’ve noticed that you use in your css “font: 71%/148%” but I don’t know how it works ;) And I’m still waiting for the reply to my email ;) Greetings :)

@Xeronia; check out w3schools.com, they have very comprehensive HTML and CSS references, check out http://www.w3schools.com/tags/default.asp for size. p.s. pfft Jem, why do I need to enable Javascript? rawr.

Hmm, perhaps a little corner of Tutorialtastic can be dedicated to your visitors to discuss/debate on code? Like for example, A posts something about how a certain code can be improved and B interjects with something better? Gah, just a little thought. :P I am not even remotely sure whether I am making sense. Heh.

Of all the tutorial sites on the web, I find yours the easiest to understand and utilize. I am trying to learn PHP, and I would certainly appreciate it if you had some sort of beginner PHP series of some sort. Also, CSS design, as mentioned, would be nice too. Thanks for taking suggestions. :)
