AWOL

I think this is the longest I’ve been without blogging for no good reason in ages! I’ve set a new record, hoorah.

Although strictly speaking there has been a good reason. Me, being my usual standards-nazi self decided to use my new position at the q*bee as an excuse to tidy up all of those old pages that don’t have a doctype, that aren’t coded to my standard, etc.. I’ve been working non-stop on them since Sunday and I’ve done about 35 out of 200. Uh, oops? My ‘quick clean-up’ has become a long term goal for the club..

I’m looking for people that aren’t members of the quilting bee and who have never been members of the club, but would consider joining, to answer me a few questions. I want to try and find out what the Q*bee is like from a non-members point of view so that we, as a club, can perhaps gain a new genre of members. Anyway, here goes:

  • How old are you?
  • How long have you had a personal website/blog?
  • What has put you off trying to join the club?
  • If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining?

..and I promise, my next entry will be completely unrelated to the q*bee. Honest.

    1. 19 2. Since April 2004 3. I have an aversion to pixelling. 4. Erm…probably not. Unless someone pixels everything for me, and all I have to do is trade. =P

    1. 19 2. Ermm… my first website started somewhere in 2002 3. Being lazy… Actually I don’t really have a clue… I think I didn’t join previously because I thought I better join later because at the time I was having too much school stuff to do and didn’t have much time for making dolls or any other pixels… Never got round to joining though… I’d kind of forgotten about the QBee already, your post a few days ago reminded me and I went to take a look again but it’s closed =P 4. Err… I’m already considering joining so I’m not so sure about that…

Almost 24 2001-ish Pixelled things don’t really interest me. I guess so.

    1. 20 in 1 hour. 2. Umm… 4ish years? 3. Because Steph had once felt upset by the fact that she was rejected from the qbee just because she didn’t have an “about me” page… I had promised that I’ll join her being beeless until she is able to join. Besides, I don’t have an “about me” page either so I wouldn’t be able to even if I tried to apply. :P 4. Probably!

    1. 16 2. 3 years 3. It never seemed like something that I would be interested in for a long time and therefore it was hard imagining myself setting it up and maintaining it. I also dislike contacting people and/or I tend to flake on remembering to do things for people. I do not pixel as well, so it was also would have been a bit of a hassle to start figuring it out if I wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. 4. Meh, I’m sure I’m just being extremely lazy about it, so sure!

Good job, Jem! I would have probably done that too. =P That’s one reason I would never have a “co owner” for a content site- they wouldn’t code to my liking. =P 14 3 years? Something like that, but not always ATB It used to seem like only the best webdesigners/pixelers could join, and it was only for the ‘elite’. Maybe, if I could keep up with the pixelling and trading.

1: nearly 22 2: too long 3:I think I told you most of this already, hehe. I forgot they have that ‘you must have an about me page’ rule. I don’t have an about me page so I wouldn’t be accepted even if I did want to join :p 4: probably not…

    1. 25 years old 2. I started blogging since January 2000, but I got my personal website (at free servers) since 1999. 3. I envied you guys because you are all soo good in making pixel images which I don’t have a gift at all, but I tried to make one and have a website and join but I rather not at all. 4. If I only have time to practice how to make a good pixel image, I will reconsidering joining the club…yeah.. why not, but since I’m a very busy person and don’t have much time to make pixel…probably this is only a wishful thinking.

    1) 23 2) Since 2000, blogging since 2003 3) Mostly becase I’m too lazy. It looks like a good club but I don’t know how to pixel anything. It also looks really elitest and I have an adersion to elitest clubs online. 4) I might, depends if I have time to take part in trades and what not.

How old are you? 13 How long have you had a personal website/blog? My blog, since August 6th, 2005 What has put you off trying to join the club? Last time I checked up on it, it seemed too cluttered and hard to navigate. Or that’s just me. If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining? Deffinetly.

Sorry for the double comment, but the last time I checked up on it was last year or so, so don’t take that to offense of what you’ve done now :p

    1) 14 2) My website has been opened since 2nd June ’04. So that’s nearly two years now. 3) I’m quite good at pixelling, so it has nothing to do with that. No, it just seems to have never appealed to me. My time and dedication are focussed towards other things, and I think I couldn’t dedicate the commitment it takes. 4) No, I probably won’t join. It doesn’t seem to be my thing.

I’ve already answered this for you somewhat, but here goes again: 1. 20 2. 6 years (OMFGWTFLOLBBQ1!1) 3. It’s kind of childish in a “yay isn’t life wonderful!” kind of way, and it acts really elite and “better than you”. You can’t see the board unless you’re an accepted member. You can’t join the LJ thingy unless you’re an accepted member. You can’t really get an idea of the community unless you’re an accepted member. How do I know the members aren’t a bunch of ‘tards (not that I’m saying they are) with whom I have no interest in trading little computer graphics with? I can’t find out until I’m part of the club. And if you don’t trade and all that, you get kicked out, right? Meh. 4. Maybe. I’ve been reconsidering joining for a while, but so far I’ve not been swayed…

I just want to say to those who think the qbee is only for the pixelling elite: I got in, and I can’t pixel at ALL! Seriously, I am a terrible pixeler, but I love the bee anyway. :)

How old are you? 18-25 crowd =) (or whatever the range is) How long have you had a personal website/blog? Nearing 6 years What has put you off trying to join the club? All the requirements I need before joining, rather than just joining and then getting everything set up. (ie: my laziness) If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining? I love the club and will eventually get around to joining. =)

How old are you? 17 How long have you had a personal website/blog? On and off for 3 years. What has put you off trying to join the club? I haven’t been one to join clubs like that in the first place, and the Q-Bee just seems kinda.. unlike myself. It looks nice and all for some people, but I’m not too into the pixelish stuff anymore. It just seems like something I’ve outgrown. If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining? I might.

    * How old are you? 17 years old * How long have you had a personal website/blog? Well, for a few years, but only seriously recently * What has put you off trying to join the club? I have a free host, and I don’t know if that’s acceptable for membership. Also, by pixel art is really crappy. * If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining? Most certainly

e.e; 1. 17. 2. Uhhh… uhhh… uhhh… Wayback Machine says 4 years. ^_^ 3. Well, as Belinda pointed out, I did try once before. I know that I had an about page for a while because of it, but I’m not sure whether or not I had it when I applied. Maybe, maybe not. I was rejected for not having enough content, although to me a weblog IS content. In any case, I have been trying to add content (in the form of more weblog posts), but still don’t feel sufficient to do anything spectacular like join a club like the QBee. I’d wanted to for a time, then someone told me some “bad things” and I decided not to want to join, although now it looks like things are changing and I might want to again. Still, there’s that fear of rejection simply because I don’t do things the same way everyone else does, and with the qbee it seems like that’s a bad idea. Oops. Sorry for rambling. >.> 4. Yes, I would. I have before considered joining (even applied!), and maybe I can get my site “up to speed” to be more of what they’re looking for over the summer? … and be allowed to. You’ve got a great start of changing my impression already, just by being enthusiastic and actually talking about qbee issues outside of the qbee.

I had joined the club, but I had to leave because I was really busy. If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining? I would join if I had the time.

    * 29 (with 17 years experience) * First website in ’98, quit in ’01 (caring for disabled mom); just getting back into it since mom’s passing and Katrina * Have applied, but dealing with more post-Katrina family drama has put my plans on temporary hold. I do wish, however, the admin would consider some sort of (standardized) report card for new applicants that could be bounced back in e-mail to tell what criteria has not been met and should be addressed. * From all I’ve seen, the club is one of the best organized and largest, which pretty much explains the failure of other similar clubs. However, I’ve found a surprising number of member’s sites that (a) the quilt link is either missing or so buried as to be impossible to find; (b) have been on “hiatus” forever (as far back as October ’05); or (c) link brings up an “Account Suspended” message. I’ll definitely reapply in future, but even though I’m a pixel-infant, I’ve got an eagle-eye and am just A.R. enough to be a P.I.T.A. at times. (grin)

How old are you? 15 How long have you had a personal website/blog? had my current one for 8 years I think now. What has put you off trying to join the club? I’ve attempted to join but never been accepted. If we could change your impressions of the club would you reconsider joining? Well considering I’ve tried a few times (geez, whats that say about my site? ha… I havent tried in a while though) A less graphic intense layout might be nice though. The pixeling is lovely but it’s just a bit much to load… Just a thought.

I’m 20. I’ve had a personal site for about 6 years. I’ve haven’t tried to join because although I’d seen members of it, I had no clue what it was. Now I look at the site I see extremely small pixel fonts which I can’t read so that’s off putting although I realise pixels are kind of the point. I think another thing is the fact that it seems like yet another clique and I tend not to join cliques. I doubt you’d ever get me to join but you might get me to look around the site if I could actually read the navigation.

I’ve been in the Q*bee for quite some time. I think it’ll be 2 years this June/July. I’ve had the notion that maybe there ought to be some “non-pixeling” activities and contests so that there are some things to do for bees whose forte isn’t exactly pixeling. Not the main focus, of course, but maybe some other smaller things. For some reason, neither of the layouts are scrolling very well for me in Firefox. I have to view everything in full screen on the 800×600 layout and I have a bit of a hard time navigating around… My computer has been really screwy lately, though, so it might just be me. I think you’re doing a great job so far, Jem :) (Can’t wait to help pixel for the pixel team!)

I’m 16 years and have had a personal site on and off for three-four years. I’ve known about the Q*bee for God knows how long, two-three years maybe? I even have it in my favourites. I haven’t joined because of two main reasons: I can’t pixel and I don’t feel like I have the time for it. Even if you should change my impressions of the site, I don’t think I would join. And should the occasion arise that I did join, I’d not be a dedicated member … that would just make me feel “bad”.

I am 16 and have had 3 personal sites over the past few years. Right now, I am re-doing everything on my current one so that I have room to grow. I have known about the Q*Bee since I joined DMB. I haven’t joined because I felt really intimidated by all of the skill of the members and told myself that I should only join once I get my own web and graphic design skills up to par with the rest. I would join it and would be active if i didn’t feel that my skills weren’t good enough.
