Apology, Thanks and RY Decisions

First off, I’d like to apologise to anyone who I snapped at, made feel uncomfortable, or just generally didn’t watch what I was typing thus unintentionally upset yesterday. It was the 6th anniversary of Ian’s death and, whilst I was generally fine and cheerful in the morning, a few things at home set me off on edge in the afternoon and it resulted in a very tense and narky Jem who was finding even the little things stupidly annoying and stressful.

Anyway, with that rare sight (an apology) over with, I would like to thank those of you who’ve left me with shit website suggestions (via email and in comments). While some of them aren’t shit and won’t be reviewed, I have my eye on one or two which are the perfect material. *insert maniacal laughter here*

Talking of websites (of the non-shit variety).. theme one that also has a fixed version that still isn’t up? Yes, well I think I deleted the stylesheet for it (the fixed version) and I can’t be bothered to re-write it. So, no fixed scrolly layout thingy in green. Although, I did have another idea with a fixed bar across the top that I might implement.

Lastly: Review-You. I have decided that I will be keeping it, that I won’t be taking on shitty reviewers and that anyone who has a problem with waiting will be promptly deleted from the queue (as is norm at the moment). However, the domain name will probably have to go. I am currently jobless, and £8 a year is a waste of money in my eyes. I might invest in a .co.uk as that’s £4 for two years, but if not, it’ll be back to a plain ol’ subdomain. So there we go. :) You can all let out a relieved sigh now.

I’m so glad Review-You will stay :). It’s the best review site out there, for me at least :). I hope the one I suggested is one you’ll review! I’m looking forward to seeing you hunt for flaws in that site! Have you ever thought of challenging yourself by reviewing a not-so-shitty website? I’m reviewing one right now and it’s hard, especially when it comes to content!

I find reviewing not-shit websites to be incredibly tedious. There’s only so many times I can say “ooh, this is good” in one review before I get bored and fall asleep. ;)

£8 a year? I definitely host with the wrong people. My jobless self has ended up paying about four times that much :) I’m glad that R-Y is staying open. Once my work panic is over, I shall get off my own rear and do some reviewing.

Bear in mind it’s only £8 a year for the domain name, I don’t get any space with it. I buy my names and hosting account separately. 1and1.co.uk is where I get my domain names from :)

I was talking about just the domain name, too ;) Thanks very much for the tip.

You’ve obviously not read my rant on internet beggars then? ;P

£8 a year? Go with godaddy.com, it costs about £4 there. Well, $8.95, whatever. I dislike .uk names because you HAVE to get them for two years. As I get bored with my domains very easily, I think I’d just end up having wasted money for that remaining year.

There’s places where you should be able to get cheaper domains, I think. If your site gets at least 3000 visits a month, you can get a free domain from a site..you may have to put their ad up and stuff, but I’ll look up the link if you are interested. Also, there’s places where you can find domains as low as $2..I’m not sure how reliable those are, but the $4 ones are definetly okay.

I don’t think Jenny’s suggestion is all that bad. I’ve never seen you ask for donations before, and unlike most people who ask for them, you’re actually popular and I know you wouldn’t let it become a habit. Now might not be such a bad time to ask for donations.

Uh…I’m not going to comment on the first part because apparently I missed something, but I’m glad you’re keeping RY. =) Maybe send out an email every two weeks or once a month to remind us to get our arses on the job? If that wouldn’t cause too much work for you, that is.

(insert relieved sigh here) I’ll never get my own domain name nor hosting, it seems. My mom just says that $8.95 USD a year is incredibly expensive. And yet, she buys those $70.00 jackets… I’d think reviewing non-shit websites are tedious too. For the same reason.

How much is it total? I like to read the site when I can, and I’m not broke.

*let’s out deep breath* You know… I think you’ve actually inspired me. So if the offer still stands, I wouldn’t mind reviewing other sites beside WPRs. Promise to finish reviews in 2 weeks (nods). I understand you. I also find reviewing bad websites so much easier than good websites. Too much paise can be harmful. :)

Yay. Review-you is staying! :P I always loved reading all the reviews on that site and it will seem as though something is missing if that site were to be gone. Looking forward to more reviews. ;)

Along the lines of what Jim said…I’d totally donate, even if I am sorta broke. =D

I’m very much looking forward to your reviews of the “perfect material”. I mean, never in a million years would I be able to do what you do, but it’s still fun and oddly satisfying to read the reviews… *joins maniacal laughter* Anyway, I’m glad to hear about review-you and I think most of us won’t mind it as a subdomain at all.
