Oh Lovely
You know, it’d be really nice if when someone steals my images and chunks of my CSS, they’d at least make the effort to do something nice or creative with them instead of just renaming the image to something slightly different and taking my site name out of my shitty link button.
She even copied my typo in my styling — where I specified h5 twice instead of h5 followed by h6! *groan*
Thanks, “Anonymous”.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind people helping themselves to a line or two of my CSS, but entire sections? Hehe. I find it more amusing than annoying nowadays.
Update (10th Nov / 9pm): After removing bits of my images here and there (but not the CSS) all day, she finally removed her website altogether this evening.

Don’t be offended, no wait, do. It’s a geocities website. That sucks though – you should e-mail telling them you’ll take legal action if it’s not taken off with a big plug for jemjabella.co.uk with a sorry.

Oh, I’m not offended.. I’ve had people take much more. It makes me laugh more than anything nowadays.

I’ve encountered similar situations in the past upon which one blatantly extracted coding from another website and pasted it onto their own without giving it a second look. When looking up their source, the individual did not even remove lines that include personal notes to indicate the sections like “My tables here, woo hoo.” However, you should be somewhat proud your coding is worthy enough to be copied. Your setup is a piece to be admired.

You’ll find the person here on yoursite.nu. ;) I recognise her name and personal photo.

Hmm… I think recently she had taken the design from another popular blog and nobody caught on (or maybe they did, I haven’t been able to keep up with things that well lately). You have a good attitude, though. At least it seems so. I like that you don’t mind me, er… people helping themselves to your stuff as long as it’s done respectfully ; ) I think it’s the way some people learn best. Where would most of us be without the ability to view source codes? The accessibility of them isn’t the problem, its peoples lack of understanding that no, you weren’t just born being able to do what you do and they for some reason have to put in effort if they wish to learn it- you just started sooner. Anyway… want me to whoop ’em?

I’ve had the same problem quite a few times over the past year or so, and I think after the first wave of annoyance passes, it actually is quite amusing that people have the audacity to do such things, and from a rather well-known site of all kinds.

I think I’ve seen her comment on lots of blogs lately and I took a visit to her site…and I didn’t know at first that it was yours…you should’ve reported her…

I’ve never had that problem! lol! I must admit if I want to look at how somebody has done something – I will take a gander at their source code! But I wouldn’t blatently steal it and use it as my own: where’s the fun in that? There’s nothing more fun than sitting at a computer and pulling your hair out wondering why that div isn’t going where it should be!

*snicker* I love stupid people. They make the world a more amusing place (when we’re not worrying about them blowing it up). By the way, um, how do entries from Augst qualify as “recent”? I think your query is getting the first three instead of the last three, or something…
Anne said:

^Ditto to Carly! (I’ve had LOTS of troubles with those div’s!)

You’re welcome. =) I didn’t know how you’d react, so a nice anonymous comment was the safest option lol. I thought it was so funny how you can’t make out her site name… or how her background is grey with some image she seem to have half-assed. People crack me up. (By the way, if you replied to krushed0515@yahoo.com, I didn’t get it. Just in case. I forgot the password =/)

Off-topic: Love the new design! Though the recent entries are a bit out of place. Don’t know what else you could do with them, though… You can delete this once you get it :D

wow, I keep seeing this happen to other websites, I hope someone out there hasn’t stolen mine. I would be really mad. Why are people so dumb? Your website still looks better though.

*Snickers* Apparently she’s deleted the message I’ve left for her, along with all the other “accusatory comments” left by other viewers from your site. And she seems to have changed the colour of the navigation bar. But I don’t see how changing the colours will make the CSS “hers”, or any different from yours. Such people crack me up.

She’s still got the stolen button too; the one she removed my name from and added hers to.

eh? why don’t I know who annonymus is? hm… should dig around more. I really like your new look, though I nearly hit the back button thinking I came to the wrong site hehe. Very professional. Oh yes, Amanda’s review (for Umb-rella Reviews is 80%). So hope you don’t worry about it too much.

I had that happen a couple of times a year or 2 back. I complained to their hosts and had their website and account deleted. They even used my photos and hot-linked to my website!

ditto to Bubs. Didn’t think I was gonna like the three collumns, but I do Jem! Glad she’s took her blog down now… maybe she’s gone and picked up a html/css book and is learning her own coding?

Woow Jem I really like this new look! :o Hehe impressed!! Anyway don’t sweat it, just report her on YSnu or keep an eye on her account anyway for a “new site”, then report her to Geocities. ;) Stealing is just a form of flattery. And think of it this way — she HAD to “steal” because she clearly couldn’t come up with anything that good on her own ;)

I don’t think I’ve had anyone copy my website design before. I’ve had custom link buttons stolen (i.e. my validation/firefox buttons which are pretty much just edited versions of other buttons freely available) but then that’s not exactly anything specific so I don’t mind XD I think I put a notice on my website once stating that people could take parts of my code to help them make my website as long as they didn’t copy my layout exactly.
Jem said:

Ah, well, I’ve had to deal with lots of thieves in my time.. none massacred my design/coding quite as much as this person though.

I’ve always thought – you know you’re doing something right when people start jacking your shit. Hey, at least you can now call someone a “smelly monkeypoo douchebag” and feel warm and fuzzy about it. Ooooh, here’s another nice n64 roms site : http://www.emuparadise.org. I say, goddamn, Mario Tennis 64 is hot!

hm… looks like the site has been removed from geocities. I do remember having reviewed it at ys.nu and was somewhat bewildered by her rather tasty graphical talent but zero coding knowledge. She did boast to me, that she changed all her coding (was too lazy to check). And my ‘horror’ I’m the one who told her to check out the tutorials at tutorialtastic. *hangs head* I just really like your ay of exlaining things. Is this my fault? *cries*

I find it hysterical how some idiot actually reviews the site after your accusation of stealing your layout. Too bad people like ripping you off, Jem. It must get annoying. I mean, kind of like mosquito bites. It’s annoying no matter how funny, no? Someday, people will need to prove their skillz (with a z, of course) to have a site. ^^ Then the idiots will be gone. Also, are you using Firefox? The tabs make me go “yes” but the theme makes me go “ooh! I want that one too.” Or maybe it’s default and I’ve been removed from it far too long to recognise it?

I’ve had that before, except the person who ripped me off simply copied the source directly from my site and put it up. That included the text that I had on my site. A friend saw it and asked her about it so it was all gone by the time I found out. The sad thing? She asked for help and was having trouble explaining what she wanted and I tried to help her by showing her an example (my site), asking if that’s what she wanted then giving her a tutorial so she could learn how to do it. People are just so lazy today. The fact that she didn’t even bother to correct typo’s makes me laugh. She needs to learn how to steal code properly. I personally have no problem with people ripping my code. Just so long as it’s not my styles, headers just the bare bones. Hell I’ve done it myself however I don’t steal styles like that.
