Fairly Stuffed

I took my Mum out for dinner this evening as it’s her birthday, and I’m blogging about it purely because I was really impressed by the quality of food and standard of service.

Now, everyone knows I’m a grumpy bugger, and usually will only review something if it’s annoyed me or somehow prevented me from going about my daily doings. However, I feel I must “plug” the New Inn in Hook-a-Gate, Shrewsbury before I go to bed.

I’ve been there a couple of times before, and I know Karl used to spend a lot of time there too, so I’m familiar with the generous servings and the pleasant atmosphere. Tonight was particularly nice though because although we arrived 20 minutes early (before they even started serving food; usually at 7pm) we were seated, had drinks and our orders had been taken within 10 minutes.

The food arrived by 7:10pm and was exactly as expected. Superbly cooked, beautifully garnished and definitely a sight for hungry eyes (especially as I went for a huge mixed grill!) The waitress was polite, helpful and more than patient with my dilly-dallying at various points during the evening… like whether or not to have 3 puddings or just 1. (Joke :p)

It really was a nice meal out and I felt dead chuffed that I’d managed to treat my Mum to good grub that she enjoyed (and she can be a fussy sod, like me). All in all, a success! So, if you’re ever in Shrewsbury or nearby and like to eat out, try the New Inn. I made a reservation for a table of four but I’m sure that you could drop by at any time.
