I was just reading an article on the BBC news website about the wikipedia “scanner” picking up on people using CIA computers to edit entries, modifications to Gerry Adams’ entry from the Vatican, etc. (source) …interesting enough in itself, but that’s not what I’m blogging about.

When I got to the bottom I realised that — within the space of the last few hours, as they weren’t there earlier — the BBC have added quick links to popular social bookmarking websites at the foot of their articles. Now this is a common technique used to encourage plugging of blogs and such by those desperate for traffic… so why is the BBC (with a toolbar page rank of 9 for crying out loud!) stooping to this desperate measure? Please don’t tell me that even the BBC are obsessed with hits and back-links…
