Nostalgic Part 2
Even after you gals provided me with potential excuses yesterday, I still don’t understand the reasonings behind placing adverts on a personal site. For example — money.. if people can’t afford a domain or hosting in the first place, they shouldn’t be on the Internet. Why spend money you haven’t got, and then beg to make it back?
Bandwidth charges? Pfft. I get around 800 unique hits per day to my domain and all of it’s sub sites (altogether) and I use just under 2Gb a month. 800 hits is a similar sort of number that most other websites offering advertising (that I’ve come across achieve) so how short of cash must they be to not be able to afford 2Gb? Most hosting services offer 10-20 times that for less money than “I’m” (Karl is, really) paying now. I guess this boils down to the fact that nobody bothers to optimise their images and reduce their crap. I don’t use massive images or litter my weblog with smilies and the like, so I use less. Simple concept, really.
Oh, and I agree with Joni that people asking for donations to support their crazy Internet habits are also irritating — but I’ve covered that rant.
Basically, Jemjabella.co.uk does not have, and will never have banner adverts, pop-ups, rotating banner scripts or any of that crap, and that my friends is my guarantee to you. Ad-free surfing: what paying for a domain is really about. :P
