Is this adulthood?
I realised today that it’s been nearly a year since my last blog post of note. Teenage Jem would be ashamed, adult Jem is wondering how the fuck a year passed in the blink of an eye.
Get up, walk the dog, breakfast, school run, work work work, school run, cook, clean, walk the dog, bedtime – and then do it all over again the next day. The routine I know and love for its predictability, while comforting for day to day Jem, doesn’t lend itself to hilarious blogging anecdotes.
Except the funny thing is, this year hasn’t been same-y and predictable, this year has been absolute chaos.
I’ve visited three different countries and had a few UK-based breaks, worked with 9 different freelancers across ~£80k worth of websites (including one where I had to immediately fire the developer), helped my daughter adjust to secondary school, started training for a marathon that I had to give up because I broke my toe, starting training for another marathon I’d forgotten I’d entered, re-started powerlifting training after finally healing from a rotator cuff injury caused by the bloody dog, started working towards my Taekwon-do black belt, nearly broke my marriage after fundamentally changing the very foundations of our commitment, began adjusting to my autism diagnosis, and all while getting up, walking the dog, doing breakfast, followed by the school run, and so on…
The truth is, I have a ton of anecdotes, I’m just too bloody exhausted to share them.

“nearly broke my marriage after fundamentally changing the very foundations of our commitment” – can’t say I’m not curious to learn what that was about!
