Retro Gaming - Transport Tycoon
Karl mentioned to me that Transport Tycoon Deluxe was available to download on Abandonia, so I hooked myself up with the download and expanded it with the free, open source OpenTTD (a fantastic project).
Transport Tycoon is one of those games that I’ve heard a lot about but never actually played before. However, given my love for RollerCoaster Tycoon (particularly RCT2), by the same guy, I figured that it’d be an instant hit and I would start raking in the dosh, building the biggest and best railways etc. (It’s not as boring as it sounds, honestly.)
Unfortunately my logic doesn’t quite ring true. I am absolutely shite at Transport Tycoon. In fact, not since Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter — the ultimate keypad mashing games — have I failed on such an epic level. I have had to customise the difficulty level so that there’s no competitors and that everything works in my favour to even begin to make a profit each year.
Still, I keep trying. It’s oddly addictive… either that or I’m turning into a boring old fart.

Hmm, I might look into that. I love RCT3 though.
I’m awesome at it.
I needed a good laugh.
I’m not all that into the strategy games. I much prefer RPGs and shoot-em-ups. I like blasting things.
I used to love the RCT games so I might try this out someday, but I’m not that great at strategy so will probably end up trying to cheat at some point or other hehe
I love Rollercoaster Tycoon! I never thought I’d see another person who felt the same way.
I used to play it when I was 8 or so; it’s such a fun, addictive game.
Put tycoon in anything I do, the world would shatter and die before global warming floods in.
i have never played this game i mite have to try it if i can pull my self from AC WW
That’s probably why I’ve never even heard of it. At least Mall Tycoon and Prison Tycoon made it into my field of vision XD Thanks for the heads up!
I vote old fart
I LOVED Transport Tycoon, it was absolutely epic in terms of games and well worth playing. Keep trying, and don’t blow all your money in the first year, and you’ll do well.
- Develop 2-3 cities that are close to each other.
- Develop them with rail until they’re so big they build road networks between each other.
- Don’t bother with ships/airplanes until MUCH later.
Those are my Rhys’ Tips for this brilliant game
Thanks for the link Jem! *goes download*
OMG, that site has SimTower! YES!!!
TT (and then OTTD) was/is my favouritest game everrrr.
I have the original TTD, didn’t know about OpenTTD though, looks better. I agree, it’s extremely addictive in a strange, strange way. However, I don’t find it *that* hard. Never bother with road stuff, go right to trains, and helicopters are also awesome. Don’t like planes, mine always crash
Lmao, I remember having rollercoaster tycoon, and zoo tycoon, Hahha.
as for ‘ultimate keyboard mashing games’ like street fighter, my pride and joy, AKA my playstation 3 will be getting street fighter as a downloadable game like next month =D
WOOP for the ps3, gotta love it. OpenTTD looks cool : )
Omg Jem! I love RCT2. Not something I would have wanted to admit, but seeing as so many others like it then I’m willing to admit it. It truly is a good game
lol. That was another one of my little outbursts
I got Karl into Transport Tycoon … eventually. He resisted at first but I converted him in the end.
Oh, fantastic, I loved this game! Didn’t realise it was available for download, thanks for the heads up.
