New House Update
I know some of you are complaining that I’ve not been updating — such is the downside of having no Internet — so you’ll have to make do with lots of posts all in one go as and when I do have access to a ‘net enabled computer
Karl registered us with a new ISP yesterday so we should be back online within 7-10 days though.
As I briefly mentioned in my huge rambly post we were having problems with the boiler staying lit. This hasn’t been fixed, and we’ve had no heating for over a week. The house is cold, constantly cold. It’s annoying, but I at least am able to console myself in the knowledge that we’re not alone because a colleague’s boiler went last week too.
The cat settled in nicely but has developed diarrhoea all of a sudden. I’m not sure if he’s just a bit poorly, whether it’s a reaction to some food or whether it’s because he was trying to eat one of my plants yesterday, either way he’s going to find himself at the vet if he doesn’t get back into shape soon. I don’t want the poor little bugger dehydrating or getting worse
Still not completely unpacked (I haven’t a clue where all the junk seems to have appeared from — who knew we could pack so much clutter into one small flat) and I haven’t even started taking pictures yet. The old flat needs completely blitzing (mega clean) and then we can hand the keys back over to the useless estate agents to get our deposit back.
All is well, but things would be moving a lot more smoothly if we had heat!

If you rush around like a crazy lady, you can make your own heat!
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 3:14 pmAww poor hex
I hope he gets well. It is amazing how much stuff one manages to accumulate into a tiny space.
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 3:31 pmAww I hope Hex will get better.
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 3:32 pmI can think of a great way to keep warm
Hope Hex gets better soon.
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 3:59 pmGive Hex imodium? OK, maybe not but I hope he gets better soon for both his sake and yours. Living with cat diarrhoea is not pleasant. If all you have left is junk why not throw it out? Unless the term ‘junk’ is what you use to collectively describe your other half’s possessions
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 5:48 pmI sympathise about having no heat. Why is it, newly rented houses have broken boilers? It took us 10 days to get a new one fitted in and working, then the electric shower blew (and hasn’t been fixed 2+ months later). So watch your shower (if it’s electric) once the boiler is fixed
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 6:28 pmSorry to hear that things are not going that smoothly, poor Hex! I hope you guys are able to get everything under control soon, like fixing the boilers, getting the Interwebz working and unpacking the clutter XD.
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 6:40 pmI hope Hex gets better soon!
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 8:11 pmPoor Hex and poor you (for not having heat). I hope that Hex gets back in to shape and that you get heat (and the Internet) soon.
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 10:01 pmIt could be stress from moving & the plant. Do you know what the plant is called? Some are poisonous to cats. So yes if he doesn’t get better soon, or stops eating & drinking or acts funny take him to the vet. As for the heat problem, just cuddle up with Karl. He should provide heat for you. If not, then surely you can think of ways to create heat. Even I know how to create heat between to people *wink*.
Response posted: March 7th, 2008 at 10:18 pmI just got finished house sitting for someone for two weeks and they had no hot water…It was miserable. I can’t imagine having no heat, especially here in Chicago, IL…That would suck major!
Take your time updating, Jem…Anyone complaining can suck it.
Response posted: March 8th, 2008 at 12:46 am“I know some of you are complaining that I’ve not been updating…” that’s sad.
Response posted: March 8th, 2008 at 1:03 amWe have no shower either, yet..:) One will be fitted in a few weeks. We have a “push on to the taps” thing that sort of works, but it has to be a fast shower using the expensive electric tank heater as opposed to having the boiler do it. We’ve now been told “monday or tuesday. ish.” for a fix. And Hex is back to his normal self today..heh.
Response posted: March 8th, 2008 at 1:03 pmNo heat and shower? That’s quite a bummer. So do you live at the new home, or the old one? No heat… *shudders*
Response posted: March 8th, 2008 at 7:42 pmI hope you get everything fixed soon, it must be horrible without any heating at all. My heater went last week too and I’m now using an electric heater to keep the place warm (no heating is a big killer for my arthritis) but it’s not a long-term solution. Glad to hear Hex is OK now
Response posted: March 8th, 2008 at 9:22 pmwow, love your site. the tutorials are so useful and i love all the articles and scripts. omg your cat was eating the plant? lol, well I hope it gets better soon
That’s crazy that you don’t have heat or internet? omg well anywho I hope all gets better and don’t worry about not updating, your allowed to have a life outside the computer every once in awhile
Response posted: March 9th, 2008 at 3:15 amHope things are going more smoothly now. I couldn’t believe how much stuff came out of my husband’s apartment when we moved to our current apartment. I swear, I don’t know how we lived in such a tiny place with so much stuff. I can’t wait until we move again so I can throw some stuff away hopefully.
