On the Mend
Hi everyone! Remember me? My name is Jem, I refer to myself as a the 'php ninja'? Look, I'm not dead yet!
Firstly, thank you to everyone who left comments, emails etc enquiring as to my whereabouts/asking me whether or not I was dead or not (so that you can throw a party, right?) I have had a rough few weeks but I am finally starting to get better.
Basically, what started off as a minor tummy bug turned in to full scale major vomiting, diarrhoea etc. The works! I'll spare you the nitty gritty details, but I ended up in hospital at the end of last week feeling like that was it... the bell was tolling for me. I was quite badly dehydrated after having had nothing to eat for over a week and total inability to keep fluid down. I was put on a saline drip, poked, prodded, and had some minor surgery yesterday morning.
I am back on my feet, finally able to eat and drink again without having to prepare the count down for when it's going to come back up again, and most importantly I'm home. I'm still quite weak and shaky around the edges (I'll be off for a lie down after typing this, it's taking that much energy out of me) but I do feel a million times better.
My heartfelt thanks goes to the ladies on the ward at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital -- I know they'll never read this but they kept me from going totally insane; them and Karl of course. Putting up with my moaning, my stink (I'd not been able to shower for 3 days!) and my pain-induced wailings yesterday. I've never loved Karl as much in my entire life as I did last night while he sat there on the cold, hard floor, rubbing my back to try and ease my back/belly ache and shift my wind. My mum also deserves a mention for being a big old fusspot over me -- sending me nice text messages and being there for me -- and for bringing me home.
So there we go. Getting better slowly, not dead, not time for y'all to celebrate yet :)

I'm glad you're feeling better and all is returning to normal in JemWorld! *hugs* It's good to know that you're not dead -- though it would've been ironic, considering your last post title :P

That's SO great to hear - not the pain and puking, of course, but that you're on the mend! :) I knew you'd come back to us sooner or later. Do you mind if I ask what was causing the problems, or was it random and complicated and just not worth recounting? Either way, welcome back, relax and feel better, and tell everyone who helped you out thanks for getting our Jem back on her feet.
so glad your still alive! sorry to hear you have been poorly alot have had it in some ways but dont think to the extent you have!

You have no clue how worried I was!! It was crazy. Sounds like you've been through quite the hellish experience! But at least now you can get betterer. Go eat something yummy!
Wow, well good thing you're not dead! What exactly did you have? Did they know what it was, or was it just some sort of ickle flu-like virus?

Oh no :( Glad you're doing better though, it was so quiet at the Qbee and Snark and IRC (not that I was on a lot) without you. My mom ended up in the hospital two weeks ago because of major diarrhoea, she got put on the drip immediately. The way you talk about Karl in this post is the way she talked about my dad back then ;) You had a minor surgery yesterday morning?? Why? Gah - I would have been so worried! But then, I'm always worried, so... Do you know where you got your throwing up etc from? Take care and REST!!
Oh my! Very sorry you had to go through all of that. Glad to hear you are doing alright. Hope you get better soon! Maybe after a while you can eat chicken soup? Maybe I shouldn't have brought up food...>_>
Yiiiiiikes! That sounds scary. Glad to hear you're finally on the mend though! I guess anything that takes you away from blogging has to be really serious...

Oh Thank Goodness. I was really starting to worry about you, Jem. There wouldn't have been any parties at my house. Maybe everything draped in black, but no parties. I am so glad you are feeling better. You take your time, rest, relax, get better. Let Karl pamper you.

Well, as long as you're on the mend and not dead, I don't care about the vague details regarding your illness. I'm just glad you're okay and back at 'er!

Ah, very, very happy to hear you're doing better! I just happened upon your site after I had long forgotten your hilarious posts and rants which have kept me up all hours of the night and read about your tummy bug. :(

Wow, that sounded like your sickness was intense to the max. Geez. Glad you survived. I personally haven't thrown up in literally years . . . A few weeks ago, I was as sick as you (but sick enough to be strapped to a hospital bed) and I had the worst urge to empty my guts. I experienced a similar "countdown" to whenid haveti take. Trip to the toilet to puke. Luckily, I didn't puke, but being that sick is just aweful.
