Karl bought me a steam mop for my birthday.
I like to lead with that line because for some reason it shocks people. “He bought you WHAT?”
But it’s ok, because he also bought me a Filofax, which is funny because I was looking at them myself before Christmas. Which means he’s either been flipping through my Amazon history (probably to see what I was getting him for Christmas) or he’s a psychic genius that knows me so well. After nearly 12 years I can say with certainty that it’s probably not the latter.
Anyway, Filofax. I had no idea that these things had such loyal followers. I’ve found blogs, dedicated purely to the Filofax. People who write every day about what they’ve put in their Filofax, stationery they’ve used, how they organise it, free bespoke add-on papers, etc. You name it, someone’s done it AND blogged about it. Nerds.
Apparently this thing is like… the SAHM (stay at home mum) organisation bible. Every doctors appointment, play date, meal plan, shopping list, todo list. I’m thinking if it’s that good, then I can use it for both my homely duties (you know you’re a feminist if you winced at the word ‘duties’, FYI) with my nifty shifty home business thing? And what better way to do so than by documenting every step on my blawg. I can hear the applause from here.

I first encountered the word/name “Filofax” when I was reading “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.” And I didn’t Google it until you mentioned it. Yup, I did not know what a Filofax was.
I’m assuming you’re going to be one of those Filofax nerds once you start getting into full swing of using it. :P

I did a lot of researching into Filofaxes before I finally decided to build my own. Luckily the size/shape of my self-made organizer still allows for that pretty-pretty stationary! :3 (They do have some beautiful pages! So expensive though~!)

I really liked having an organizer the two years (other than in school when they were compulsory) I had one. But I haven’t been able to do it in about 4 years now. I’m even rather awful at keeping my phone calendar up to date.

I totally winced when you said duties, and then laughed at the parenthetical. But I totally know what you mean. Alas, I have not found my perfect “filofax,” as you all call it. One of these days, I am sure I will. *sigh*

I had that same problem. I purchased several organizers with the intention of using them, but ended up giving up on them after a few weeks, since they were never quite what I wanted, so I finally built one myself. I’ve been using it non-stop for almost a year now. :) It is so much better when you can create your own pages and have your organizer exactly the way you like it! (Not to mention that I can change the organizer as my needs change.) I’ve made blog planners, school planners, weekly planner pages etc. It has become my lifeline. <3

I don’t know what I would do without my planner! Granted, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a Filofax. It’s pretty much a bare bones planner, but that’s all I need now that I’m no longer in school and only have my social calendar to “manage”!

I’ve never heard of a Filofax before and after Googling, still can’t quite figure out what it is. An organizer? I must be a terrible SAHM for not knowing what this thing is! :)

Yeah, it’s just a brand of organiser. I don’t know if it’s an international brand so am sure your SAHM-rating is unaffected at this time ;)

I do the same thing when I say that Josh bought me a spin bike for Christmas. People are not sure how to respond when I say my husband bought me exercise equipment. I really want a steam mop. I would have been excited to get one.
