Cook, clean, nurse the baby, sleep, code, clean, cook, herd the toddler, more cleaning, more nursing.
Am I allowed to talk about how monotonous my life is right now or is that breaking one of the unwritten parenting rules? I’m either sat at my computer or behind a pan on the cooker top.
I need a hobby that doesn’t involve sitting at my computer and is easy enough to do with a young, nursing baby.

When you find that hobby then please, please take me with you!

What about starting to watch
– How I met your mother
– The IT crowd
– The big bang theory
– ….
That’s what a friend who just had a baby in August told us yesterday, the things you wrote and watching all those tv shows is all she does :)

We don’t have a TV (well, not one that’s connected to receive television signals anyway). I did get a bunch of shows on DVD but that’s an expensive hobby!

I was JUST whining about this myself (minus the toddler bit. And the cooking bit, since hubs does that. Insert laundry/cleaning in there instead).
I echo Nina Amelia.

PS: But yay, you have us super cool people coming to see you soon, so that is boredom eliminated for both of us (for 2 days. Heh). Win win. :D

cake and company, best weekend ever :D

You can pack up your kids and come visit me in Canada. I’m a bit bored too. You know that feeling when you’re just on the verge of doing something brilliant but there’s a big chunk of time in the way that has nothing of importance in it? I have that.

I think there are times in everyone’s lives when things seem disgustingly routine and boring. But life is like that – it can’t be super fun all the time, and there’s bound to be periods of routine.
You’re doing what’s manageable at this point in your life…things will no doubt change when the kids are a bit older, and you have more time for hobbies!
In the meantime, can you arrange a regular twice-weekly playdate at the park with a local mum? It might help just to know that there will be a regular time every week where you can get out of the house and have some adult interaction.

Too true. It’s not the monotonies of motherhood causing me to be bored so much as the lack of inspiration to do anything about it.
19 Sep at 12:55 am
I’m right there with you, Jem.
19 Sep at 2:28 am
I have heard lots of people take up knitting while nursing.
19 Sep at 11:22 am
Knitting, crocheting, if you asked, I’d reconnect the R-Pi up…that has THOUSANDS of available channels on it…
19 Sep at 11:27 am
Don’t want to be sat watching TV though.

If you’ve ever wondered why I was crabby at times now you know. You could always try one of those ‘Learn a language’ tape/dvds perhaps.
19 Sep at 7:30 pm
So what’s your excuse now? ;) *ducks*
19 Sep at 8:06 pm
Cheeky mare! My excuse now is because my eldest daughter never visits me – only her siblings :p

Walking?
Tried knitting with a nursling, not too bad when their little but once they reach that grabbing for everything stage, pretty impossible :)
And well, sometimes being at home is really monotonous. I try to do something different each week – meet up with friends, go swimming, go to a different park. I also have easy meal days a couple of times a week – those meals that are really throw a few ingredients in a pan or in the oven and they make themselves (well almost!) – so I don’t feel like I’m a slave to the kitchen. It might not go well with the budgeting but I find there has to be a trade-off between mental health and everything else!!
19 Sep at 2:44 pm
Oooh I agree with your mom, learning a language could be fun! :D
19 Sep at 4:24 pm
…a programming language could be even more fun (well, to me anyway, because I’m sad like that), but that wouldn’t solve the ‘stuck behind a computer’ issue… Heh
19 Sep at 8:31 pm
Excessive masturbation is my hobby ;D
26 Sep at 6:47 pm
Thanks for sharing Kris :p
20 Sep at 7:47 am
…drawing? :) You need a sketchbook and just about any pencil you can find and you’re good to go.
26 Sep at 6:47 pm
I draw smiley faces for Isabel, does that count? :D
21 Sep at 5:43 pm
Photography? You could practice with your kids. But I do agree with all of the other ideas. :)
26 Sep at 6:47 pm
I do take pictures of the kids anyway but wouldn’t call it a hobby, hehe :)
