This Could All Go Horribly Wrong

Karl had a call from the estate agents/solicitors last week re: the house and they informed him that things are moving along swiftly and they expect us to be in by the end of the month. This month. May. Holy shit.

But also, they said we need to give notice for our rental asap. This meant having to give it by yesterday, so that the last payment goes out and we’re not stuck with an empty cottage over June while we’re living the high life (ha) in our new house.

So we did. We handed in our official notice termination thingymabob, said thanks a lot, Bob’s your uncle, bye bye. Which means we have to be out of here by June 9th at the very latest.

Of course, it does occur to me/us that we don’t actually have an official completion date yet, despite the reassurances from the solicitor. So, call me pessimistic but … This Could All Go Horribly Wrong. (Caps absolutely necessary.)

  1. $10 says you spend a few days camped on your mum’s floor. ;)

  2. Should I tell you about the guy I used to work with who had a similar situation and his lawyer/bank/real estate stuffed him around and he found himself in a house that he wasn’t currently leasing. He didn’t actually move out! I have no idea what happened to the new tennants that were meant to move in.

Have anywhere to store stuff in case?

  3. Have faith, Jem. I would imagine it will go through. Though I would be advising your solicitor that if it doesn’t then he/she will be responsible for finding & paying for your lodging until it is.

  4. I’m with Aisling. My settlement was delayed by a week. Be prepared to stay in a motel/your mum’s.

  5. Although it does seem somewhat daunting I am sure that if you should need an extra week at the cottage your nice Landlady would come to an arrangement with you both. Stop fretting – it will all go smoothly and according to plan, trust me :o)x Your biggest problem is going to be ‘How do I pack up the whole house while Izz merrily unpacks for me?’

  6. Things will be fine for both of you. I’m sure all will be set by June 9th. Right now things may seem a bit daunting and out of place, but you’ll be fine. Besides you have a baby to think about now. Congratulations on the baby news by the way. I’ve been visiting your site for awhile and meaning to comment on it, so again congrats! :)
Have faith Jem, everything is in your favor.

  7. One more thing, I’m so behind on your site that I just realized you already have a baby….(feels embarassed).

Ooh no! We didnt put our 2 weeks notice in until settlement was completed. Our settlement was delayed by a week and then we needed that extra week to move into our new house and clean the crap out of the rental so we’d get our full bond back.
