Who Stole My Hair?

One of the few plus sides to pregnancy is that it seems to stop your body hair falling out – I guess this why it appears to be thicker. So, now I’m no longer pregnant, we’ve returned to having plug holes and the vacuum cleaner blocked with my hair and it’s been pissing me off. Cue me googling for hair styles, and the decision that it’s pretty much all or nothing — if I don’t have it cut short there’s not much point in getting it done at all. It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve last had a proper haircut.

I had my hair cut yesterday. No longer do I look like this (don’t get your hopes up, my face is removed)… now I look like this (external link, not actually me). Mine is a bit shorter on the back and sides though.

I quite like it, it’s refreshing to feel the breeze on my neck for once. I feel like I’m growing up.

Warning

This post is over 6 months old. This means that, despite my best intentions, it may no longer be accurate. Age, motherhood, experience, loss... these things have all changed me from when this blog was started back in the heady (ha) days of my youth.

As much as I would like to go back and edit 10 years of archives to provide an insight into the 'me' of now — to update coding snippets and revise website advice — it would probably take years to do so (by which point I'd have to start again!) This would defeat the point of keeping these archives anyway.

Please take these posts for what they are: a brief look into my past, my history, my journey.

Must be a lot easier to take care of one-handed, too :)

Short hair can be hard to get used to, but I think it usually looks better. Plus, it’s WAY easier to care for, which is obviously a plus when you have a small baby. :)

Weird how you should go for the usual hairstyle I go for when I am now trying to grow it. Couldn’t we have just swapped?

I can see that looking absolutely adorable on you :D

Also, using my skills as a creative I have analysed your facial structure and managed to reconstruct your face with 87% accuracy. (http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3500/jemf.jpg)

That’s quite a difference, and it’s a great cut. Short hair is so much easier to look after.

The less fuss hair needs, the better – particularly as you have a baby to tend to!

When I was born my mom cut her hair like this. From lengthy to a pixie cut. She didn’t look all that great with it, but she says that with a child you’re carrying around is just annoying. I think that cut looks very hip though. (:

You lie! The 2nd pic IS you! ;)

I don’t like short hair so I won’t be following suit, but I do need my boob-length hair chopped to a more manageable chin length. Need to find a time to do it though… /excuses

Also to note – you should make that first pic your Avatar. It’s rather creepy :b

No way! When I was pregnant I thought I might go bald! Unfortunately I’m not the complete opposite though since I’m still shedding like a black cat on a white sofa. Still not bald though :-D

It’s weird for me to get used to a couple inches off, but going that short is a huge change! I think I would feel naked :P

Well we think it’s great and the cut really suits the shape of your face too. I’m sure it will be a lot less hassle to cope with too with Izz taking up so much of your time just now. The hairloss should slow down now as your hormones go back to normal, takes a little while though.
Audrey… the really funny thing is – that first pic really IS Jem so if she were to use it as an avatar nobody would be any the wiser :)

I love short hair best :D After the haircut it just feels so light all of a sudden and I feel really refreshed :D

    Short Hair ftw!

Ooh, I think you made a wonderful choice.

Oh how we howled with laughter at Lilians’s facial analysis….it is SO good! Although, I feel that it is far more than 87%, quite possibly even 99% Lilian you are so clever XD

I always find that i love short hair for about six hours, and then when I want to put it into a pony tail, I just can’t! :) There’s something about being moms, though, and having short hair. It’s nice, too, because you don’t have to use nearly as much shampoo and it dries a LOT faster.

Hmm, I didn’t know it stopped the hair shedding, I just thought mine seemed thicker because it was greasier : ) I did enjoy feeling like I had ‘thick’ hair, though. Mine is super fine and baby-ish. If you take a piece of my sister’s hair and hold it up to a piece of mine it is going to be 3-5 times thicker per friggin strand. Makes my hair extra limp and boring.

The hairstyle looks like it will go well with your face shape (and am i wrong or did you previously, years back, have photos of you on your site?) Big, big change! Very brave.

I did have one pic, about 8 years ago. I thought there was only one person who remembered it!

Why on earth would you want a lesbian haircut?!

  24. Jem says: March 12, 2010 at 8:02 am # ·

    I didn’t know hair had a sexuality…

  25. Jordan says: March 12, 2010 at 8:07 am # ·

That is INSANELY short. I did a short cropped look once and it was hard for me to adjust to but i LOVED not having to dry my hair and.. I could wake up from sleep and my hair? Perfect bed head ;)

I’ve been putting off my hair cut for a few months. I got it cut last in August cos it was halfway down my back and too hard to manage in chair. I think I did 8".. And now my hair is almost back to being halfway down back D:. Ickies.

I imagine you look rather MILFy with your new hairs :)

    @Vera because it’s damn sexy..?

Typical… the person with the negative comment doesn’t have the balls to leave real details. *rolls eyes*

    LOL @ Lilian.

Vera! Why on Earth do you have a gay email address that doesn’t work!? :P j/k

I could have sworn I commented with "I love the idea new hair" (on the picture you posted with the model heh). I can’t recall having lost my senses… please tell me that’s not me D:

Jem needs to accept that her hair is attracted to women. I bet you find it on their shirts and sweaters, perhaps lurking on the bottom of their socks after a visit.

I had my hair like that – shorter on the back and sides, too. However, I had a longer fringe on one of the sides. It looked kewl as hell. Then, my next hairdresser chopped it off and turned me into a little boy. So, I’m growing it long, again. :) Had short hair for two years, and I’m bored!
