Buy Books for Australia
SitePoint (the cool people who make books and write articles and things) are giving away 5 of their books in PDF form for the price of 1. That’s $149.75 worth of books for just $29.95 (about 20 quid). As if this wasn’t a groovy enough deal on its own (because the SitePoint books do rock), SitePoint are giving away 100% of the proceeds to the victims of the recent Australian bushfires.
If you’re interested in getting your geek on, and helping the hundreds who’ve lost their homes and possessions, family, etc. visit the 5-for-1 sale page and buy some books. (I bought one on Rails, one JavaScript and one PHP. Can’t remember the other two. :P)
Oh yes, and you’ve only got until the 13th — that’s tomorrow — so get your wriggle on.
Warning
This post is over 6 months old. This means that, despite my best intentions, it may no longer be accurate. Age, motherhood, experience, loss... these things have all changed me from when this blog was started back in the heady (ha) days of my youth.
As much as I would like to go back and edit 10 years of archives to provide an insight into the 'me' of now — to update coding snippets and revise website advice — it would probably take years to do so (by which point I'd have to start again!) This would defeat the point of keeping these archives anyway.
Please take these posts for what they are: a brief look into my past, my history, my journey.

Ohhh, so that was what the email was about. I saw a Sitepoint email but never got around to read it… I might buy the books for the sale price, and knowing that it’s not some shoddy we’ll donate 2% at cap it at $1500 or something. :) Good to know 100% are going there.

Woot, thanks for the link! I just bought my five ones :)

If I had money to spend and they had books I really wanted, I would buy some.
Also, you have a number of comments error. It says two comments when there’s only one. :o

@Vasili It’s not an error, it’s a subtle way to brainwash you into commenting. Like, right now there are two comments above me, but the header says "comments (3)". I take that to be YES RACHAELY YOU WILL COMMENT.
I got my books the other day. :)

^ OMG! Like a mind reader? Jem’s blog system knows I’m going to comment. *runs off screaming*

Thanks for letting me know about this, I have some really cool books now! I got two PHP/MySQL ones, two JavaScript/Ajax and one on freelancing. They threw in a free video too!

@Vasili,Rachael: I’m sure the comment errors will be fixed soon enough. Something might be on the way…Soon.
Sitepoint are amazing and this pdf book scheme is awesome. Sitepoint have always offered pdf version of their books for free so being able to sell them and put the money to good use is awesome.
Thanks to all of those involved.
Current tally i think stands at 77million from the phone-poll last night alone so every cent definitely counts. -
Thanks for posting about this Jem. :D

Aghh, I wish I could help out so much! I mean, it’s cool to get books as well but I really want to help all those poor people.. I am in SO much money trouble that I can’t even spare a QUARTER anymore.. I’m like groveling on the ground, scrounging for change. *sigh*
Well if a miracle happens by tomorrow, I shall do this for sure!!

I want them, I want to donate, but I’ve only got £16 in my PayPal which doesn’t cover it. And if I spend any money out of my bank account, I may go hungry.
Decisions, decisions.
