NinjaLinks Update

I made some empty promises about my latest script, NinjaLinks, possibly being ready by the end of March. Obviously as it’s now a couple of hours from April that didn’t happen. I do have excuses reasons for this though…

NinjaLinks is supposed to be my secure replacement for SimpleDir. It’s needed, the old script is pants. Double pants, even. Thankfully the site that originally distributed the script has gone, but there are some left longing for a solution to their sticky pickle of a situation (an insecure script on their server).

I was going to release the script all posh, l33t and OOP-flavoured. However, while chunks of the Q*Bee is OOP and I can manipulate it, most of it is Bub’s genius mind at work so it would have been a learning curve as well as a bit of an experiment. Unfortunately time got away from me, so it’s going to be neither.

Yes, my terminal soft spot for procedural PHP means I’m going to finish it off nice and quickly in ol’ fashioned code. Secure, but not “true programming”. So there you have it, there’ll be a slight delay but I’m chugging along and hopefully because I’ll be familiar with the code I’m using it won’t be too long before I’m bugging for testers. (Get it.. bugging? Harhar!)

Warning

This post is over 6 months old. This means that, despite my best intentions, it may no longer be accurate. Age, motherhood, experience, loss... these things have all changed me from when this blog was started back in the heady (ha) days of my youth.

As much as I would like to go back and edit 10 years of archives to provide an insight into the 'me' of now — to update coding snippets and revise website advice — it would probably take years to do so (by which point I'd have to start again!) This would defeat the point of keeping these archives anyway.

Please take these posts for what they are: a brief look into my past, my history, my journey.

Ooh, NinjaLinks! By the way, is there any particular reason why it’s called that instead of BellaLinks? :)

@Raina: because the Bella~ series are flat file, and the NinjaLinks is a one-off MySQL script :)

    *wonders what OOP is*

@ Julie – Object Oriented Programming? … I think. XD I’m not a programmer. Glad to hear you’re still chugging along on Ninjalinks, though! I’ve been waiting patiently for it and even though it might not be “perfect” when you release it, you can always improve upon it. :)

nifty. i can’t wait to try it out.

Julie: what Larissa said. You mean all this is not OOP driven… ever since I learned OOP in 1st year, I couldn’t possibly imagine NOT coding with object scripts of such type. Ah well, each to his/her own. As long as it’s secure and easy to work with I’m fine… although I’m still going to be shocked that you don’t use OOP concepts. Shame shame! =P

Been waiting for this since Glitter became temporarily down. Can’t wait to try it out. :)

Sounds great! Can’t wait to test out the script. :)

I’m really interested in this script. We all need a good, free directory script (or whatever you call it).

    OOP turns me on.

I don’t know what NL is, but as I’m link happy, I’m excited to see!

A links directory has to be up there with the most demanded PHP scripts. … by me :)

Can’t wait for this to come out. As lazy as it sounds, I’ve been putting off a new layout and better coding just for this. :) Tara’s been too busy to update SimpleDir unfortunately. :(
