Start of Something

Linda is selling YourSite.nu. I know it’s cynical of me but I can see this being the downfall of the whole thing. Not necessarily because of the change of ownership, but because it’s being advertised as a way to make money. I don’t (or rather — won’t — I refuse to use Paypants) have the ability to send cash over the Internet so if registrations/etc were made possible only to those who pay I’d be stuck.

Let’s just hope that whoever buys it knows the site and can run it effectively without having to resort to mad money-making techniques.

Warning

This post is over 6 months old. This means that, despite my best intentions, it may no longer be accurate. Age, motherhood, experience, loss... these things have all changed me from when this blog was started back in the heady (ha) days of my youth.

As much as I would like to go back and edit 10 years of archives to provide an insight into the 'me' of now — to update coding snippets and revise website advice — it would probably take years to do so (by which point I'd have to start again!) This would defeat the point of keeping these archives anyway.

Please take these posts for what they are: a brief look into my past, my history, my journey.

Oh dear, the way it’s being advertised really doesn’t leave much hope, does it? :/

LOL, what’s wrong with Paypal? Honestly, I never understood why some people hate it so much. Though somehow I doubt that YS.nu will start demanding money, because that would lead to a pretty dramatic decrease in traffic.

Maybe if the new owner decides to make people pay to register sites, then he/she’d still let the currently registered sites stay registered? Cause if he/she didn’t, I think that the site would lose a lot of members..

Wow…..I’m a bit of a knob, but I didn’t even realise you could sell websites over ebay. How interesting. *ponders* Nonetheless, I hope that existing users get to stay on. If it gets bought simply for advertising dollars however…I don’t see much hope. Perhaps it’ll be a “keep only those who have more than x number of reviews” situation. I could deal with bucketloads of Google Adsense or what not, but not registration fees. :S

Ick. I think it’s a goner :( It’s a great site and all, but I just can’t see someone buying it and managing to keep it in good shape and all that O_o

as if ANY 14 year old with a three month old website would pay to get it reviewed when there are loads of wprs that do it for free! (well, ok maybe a few would, but still) Shame really, since the drama calmed down a bit YSnu has turned into a fairly decent community. Probably since I stopped reviewing actually, heh

Oh. That’s such a shame. :( I too think that the sale can only mean bad things for the site. V xx

Aw, have you noticed that when Linda sells her sites they just get turned in to .. well yeah. I hope it doesn’t do the same for YS.nu *sigh*

I wouldn’t stay if they started charging me a fee. It’s not worth it to me. I mean, it’s a nice community for the most part, but I haven’t gotten any reviews that would be worth paying for. Also, I’m with Jordie – what’s wrong with PayPal? Just curious.

I don’t trust it. I don’t trust online banking either.

All those “brilliant” moneymaking techniques.. soon you realize that charging for everything makes everyone leave. Unfortunately, I see no hope.. anyone who’s paying $400 for it is obviously going to use it as a business.

I’m very tempted to try to figure out a way to buy the site… I’m insane, ne? I just can’t stand sitting here as I watch the site potentially self destruct as it has been absolutely invaluable to a lot of people. >.>

What? Selling? Yoursite.nu? At the moment, I am curious as to why she wants to sell it when it is doing so well. :( I hope the YS community doesn’t get manipulated should the future owner be a money-obsessed one. *touches wood*

I’m going to be honest here and say ys.nu is totally boring me. I don’t review sites (I have like 30 odd reviews and I’m the first member!) and the sites that are on ys.nu don’t interest me in the slightest. I haven’t visited personal sites on a regular basis in what seems like years. It is slowly but surely decreasing in traffic, most comes from the vexel tutorial and I have no desire to work on anything on the site anymore. I have spoken with a couple of bidders including the current top bidder and he seems very nice and very interested in the community. In all, it’s nice that you’re concerned but you will also notice.. there aren’t that many others. Btw, you could always ask someone with paypal to pay for you (if it ever came to that) in return for something else (layout etc etc) there are always ways :)

Uh, well, whatever happens I hope it doesn’t go down the crapper damn it! I’ve only just started going there. >_>

well… you might be right with it, but I agree with Linda. I haven’t reviewed there in quite a while, and most sites… well I keep wondering why people tell them ‘neat site , bye’, when it won’t even work in ANY browser. nevertheless, maybe it won’t be so bad, after all :-)
